2017 - Broadway retires on top. We hire Washington. 2018 - We finish 10 - 2 with wins vs. Jacksonville State & ECU and home losses to Morgan and FAMU. CB Champs. #12 in poll. 2019 - We finish 9 - 3 with win vs. ranked Elon, loss to Duke and losses on the road vs. Morgan and FAMU. CB Champs. #23 in poll. 2020 - No season due to covid 2021 - We finish 5 - 6 in first year of Big South conference play. Lost GHOE. Beat the Buzzards. 2022 - We finish 7 - 4 in second and final year in Big South. Win GHOE. Lose to the Buzzards. Lose the championship. Have 7-game winning streak. So, in 4 on-the-field years, we win the CB twice, participate in a conference championship game only to lose it and you are shown the door? The schedule is the schedule. And winning is HARD no matter the competition. This looks good on paper but, to watch it play out on the field was quite different. The optics of the '21 season put Washington in a hole and then, the very slow start to '22 was hard for him to recover. We had the 7-game win streak but, to watch the game against SCSU was just bad...even with the win. Those where things I believe that were supposed to be cleaned and I think it hurt him. Discipline doomed him... Now, I read an article where the football team down the road (NCCU) receive and award for playing a full game against Tenn. Tech without a single penalty. So, it's not unheard of, people are teaching discipline in their respective programs.

A player who just graduated from A&T said this in my Twitter Spaces earlier tonight. “Players are heading to the portal because they ask for things…they are told they will get them…and it doesn’t show up…” It’s a similar sentiment that the band have said…and also some of the students as well… There might be a bigger issue folks… I expect we all want more than what we have. For some kids missing/wanted things are a big deal. It's kind of like the things FBS programs have that the FCS programs don't have. Players will choose the place with more things, if they can get it. We'll see what happens.

Let’s put a little perspective on this: When we made the move to the CAA, our administration stated that it was premature! Our record was 7-4. We had a 7 game win streak. We played the schedule that we were given. Out of our 4 losses, two of those were expected, Duke and North Dakota State. The remaining two were 50/50 prospects at best. Why, because GW beat us last year and Central is a rivalry game where previous records don’t necessarily guarantee the winner of the next game. How do I know because there was a time when we, NCATAGGIES, did not beat NCCU for 11 years in a row. (Most of you on this board we’re not even born when this happened. I assure you that it did!). So yes, we should have beaten Central but we didn’t. It happens. And, it’s happened before. I don’t know why Coach Washington was fired. Maybe it was because of his record. Maybe not. Maybe it was because he was not the man to lead us into the new CAA era for whatever reason. If that is indeed the reason, the administration should say so.

I know the News & Record has gutted it's staff, but it's been almost 24 hours and there still isn't an article online about the firing.

These are all valid points but, I think Coach Washington being the respectable and good man that he is, it is my opinion that there was an expectation that the team would take on the personality of the coach. So, all the things you list are true but, it was just hard to see beyond the undisciplined play and penalties from his teams. I'm almost certain if he didn't have a discipline issue on his team, he would still be the head coach. Also, we don't know what the Chancellor pays attention to besides the wins and losses. If he is attending the tailgates and at every turn you have a Neighborhood talking about the undisciplined penalties by the team, it becomes hard to ignore...not saying that happened but, you get the point.

Speechless. Would’ve been fine with me last year, but in my eyes he redeemed himself this year. Coaching is a bs business. Thanks Coach. I’m appreciative of all you did. I'm okay with letting him go if...the Administration has a better coaching candidate that can get us to the next level. To me coach Washington appeared to always be a step behind.

Can somebody define what next level means? Based on previous post, we were already having next level success by defeating D1 programs.

And if you watch Chancellor Martin here, it seems Chancellor is going to put his money where his mouth is. However, he's gotta step up to the plate yesterday, as my late mom used to tell me.

Chancellor Martin is the Destroyer of Worlds. Rod Broadway built the greatest HBCU football program of the modern era and Martin is now hellbent on burning it to the ground.

Can't help but wonder if Coach Washington's attitude towards the CAA move had anything to do with it. He definitely ain't get fired for it, but do you want the figurehead of your main program to have an at best ambivalent attitude towards all the moves you're making? I mean deep down Hilton probably is cringing over the moves but he puts on a great game face. Washington didn't really have the political capital to do anything but the same.
At what point does Martin question Washington getting an extension? I assume he signed off on it, but then he turns around and calls for his removal. That's a serious waste of resources. Either Hilton or Martin is at fault for extending the man and then changing their mind a year or so later.
