We just hired a top notch coach; that specializes on the Defensive side of the ball. I would think he can what holes need to be filled and plug them with the right talent. Isn’t that a basic expectation? first of all, who says he's a "top notch" coach? he's never been a "head coach" before, so we won't know if he's a "top notch" coach until he has "at least" one full season under his belt as a head coach. secondly, i don't believe he's had enough time to plug all of the holes that has been left open by players who won't be returning. so i don't have the same expectations that you have and that's no knock on coach brown. just that filling the departures, hiring a staff, imposing a new team philosophy, imposing a new offensive/defensive system, and building a new team chemistry is a bit much to ask of a new coach who has never been a head coach before, imo... I won't say its an impossibility but, I would think and hope that he has his full compliment coaches for Spring ball to pull it off. It's definitely a tall order for a first year coach but, I won't say that it cannot be done.

If Brown is the Coach that I feel he is .

I have to disagree It's the HC's responsibility to bring in like minded coaches on his staff that understand and agree with his philosophy and vision . The only adjustment period between the staff is getting to know each others families that's it . Brown doesn't need an adjustment period for his staff because they are already vetted and understand what Brown is asking of them to move the program forward..i.e philosophy and vision is set in stone because that's why Brown hired them . The HC sets the foundation and platform the assistant coaches evaluate and prepares the talent to stand on that platform as dictated by the head coaches philosophy and vision . If a holdover player cannot accept the head coach and staff philosophy and vision he needs to kick rocks . Don't make this harder then it is . Brown know what he is doing and will do it his way .

Also that is why new incoming HC's like to clean house and bring or pick there own assistant coaches to send the massage to the team . That not only has your coaching staff change but the team philosophy and approach to the game will be changing it also .

Plus we are just now entering into the peak months for transfers (in and out). People tend to underestimate how important the depth chart is in a physical sport like football. You also need quality backup or rotational players to relieve the starters in order to be very successful. A top edge pass rusher or offensive tackle can't play every down at full speed and be at his best. Coach Brown will continue to plug holes throughout the summer.
How many players do we still have in the transfer portal?

Related to "Doing Chicken", it amazes me that it looks like so many don't seems to understand that it's no big thing related to the BASICS of football. The previous 2 regimes just gave it a name.
1. Stopping the run. 2. Protecting the football 3. Winning the kicking game

This is just how it works now. He thinks he's going Power 5. Hopefully, he's gotten some good advice.
