I think they said the were going use that travel money for the concert season.
This is what happens when you give the band leadership total control over their budget and schedule with zero oversight.
Chancellor Martin has been asleep at the wheel and this thing has gone off the rails.

There has to be a way to support the bands desire to do competitions, special invites, etc...and support the football team for big away games (especially if it's in state) all within a limited budget. That would require better leadership from the administration. Chancellor Martin needs to clarify his expectations. Agreed.... You know, we all saw the metrics that were used to justify the move to the BSC and the CAA. I was also in attendance a couple years back at a local alumni meeting when band leadership presented funding comparisons for the BGMM verses other MEAC and SWAC bands. I say all that to ask this question...who, and what do we want to be as an HBCU band in this new environment. I would hazard a guess that the BGMM is ahead of many of the bands in the CAA. If there is a band head that can do a comparison that would be great. What size, marching style, funding, and travel frequency for CAA bands would be nice. Now back to the initial question...who, and what do we want to be? Are we still trying to compete with other large HBCU marching bands ? If so, how do we maintain that "edge" while also competing in the CAA. The days of the BGMM facing off against a similar band at home or away are becoming infrequent at best. Marching bands are not a CAA attraction. How can we maintain the BGMM and leverage it for the support of our football team...and school.

It actually is about funding. Your talking about this one game. People are discussing the lack of funding for the band program overall. To include lack of facalities and lack of schlorships. If the band is so important then FUND it. People put money in priorities EXCUSES....line speak hahahah The GW game was already programmed for them to attend.... So the money they programmed the beginneing of the year disappeared? So Dr Ruff stole the money? an investigation needs to be launched The school gives the band money, just take half the band to GW...that will be $20K If u feel that Dr Ruff is stealing then please voice your concern to Aggie PD , the provost and the board of Trustees.

I clearly said the chancellor should govern the band. Right now, it doesn't seem like he is really involved at all. He was involved the minute he decided that they report to Student Affairs rather that Arts and Sciences or Athletics,

We are letting Gardner-Webb succeed if we just get mad and take our instruments home. Recognize their attempt at gamesmanship but still be wise enough to understand the greater purpose here: a potential conference title for your No. 1 revenue generating sport. I still say if you and other Aggies want to win this gamesmanship thing, cough up the $40k-$45k, and tell the band to suit up and play those first down fanfares, Corporate Thuggin', Velvet Rope, and the Fight Song. This has nothing to do with money. This Gardner Webb game was on the travel schedule in August!

At this point if we're trying to hear some music then we need to have band alumni set up something like Washington State does with their flag every weekend on College Gameday. No matter where Gameday is located, you see that got damned flag. Likewise, band alumni need to show up with their instruments, sit together, and play they asses off. The band ain't finna do it, so... Seriously, isn't this doable? Imagine how the band would feel knowing they too tired to show up for a game but alumni from early 20s to mid 80s are bringing instruments and playing in support of the school and team.

I doubt it. Gonna be hard to get a tuba through the metal scanners.

You really band alums are going to do anything to show up the current members of the BGMM. Lol

Can't show them up if they ain't there. Can you?
Tuba? Probably not getting that in. Pep band instruments? If you bring it, I don't see why not. Or we can make as many excuses as the band guy was making.
Aggies Do... nothing.

Have the alumni band show up at the band room in the morning, A1 can add another bus to the AAF CARAVAN at 6:30 am with some libations on board and problem solved!
