WCA, have you ever coached? The coach’s job is to fight “human nature”. that's 100% true. a lot of folk don't understand how the typical athlete's mind works. that's why you cannot compare the performance of teams against a "common opponent". mindsets change all the time and often aren't the same against every opponent. a very "LARGE" part of team competition in "any" sport is your team's "mindset". coach broadway was "outstanding" at managing the mindset of his teams. and yes, "psychology" is a part of it. coach broadway used to have this ole saying, that if something good happens, KEEP PLAYING and if something bad happens, KEEP PLAYING. sounds simple, but the point of the matter is that its human nature to take you foot off the pedal when good things happen. so coach broadway's message was to KEEP PLAYING regardless of the score. same when falling behind. there's a tendency to throw in the towel when you fall far behind in a game, but you've got to KEEP PLAYING even if you fall far behind. yes, every coach in every team sport must manage the "mindset" of his team and sometimes that means you have to protect your team from "human nature". that's a skill that very much goes "unnoticed" by the casual sports fan...

What people don't understand is what applies in athletics also applies in your everyday life and work place environment . That's why athletic models / modalities are use as one of the gateway based component application in life skills training models . It teaches you Team work , competition leveling and what is need to achieve those levels, how to communicate, discipline & focus ( completing the task at hand) , never slacking off until the task is completed. You can not separate the athletic psychological approach from your everyday life . I don't believe that there is any-person that is successful in any field of endeavors that at some point, has not relied or used those points mentioned above , either in participation or association that dose not require the same of his/her subordinates.

In my eyes, we Smoked Them! We put the game away by halftime! We did enough to keep them under control, we did not fall to the chippy-ness and our Stars didnt get hurt. We had a Good Problem. We went from having to keep the ball vs SCSU -on the last drive-, to Smoking two Teams in a Row. This Team now knows how to be All Business... I feel like we can never play a complete dominate football game. The 2018 game vs FAMU we pretty much dominated up until the end of the 2nd. FAMU came out and began to stick a rattler up where the sun don’t shine and we couldn’t do anything about it. Washington has a history of not finishing or slacking we just where able to pull it off without consequence Saturday.

He didn't sound overly pleased about it at the press conference. He seems to be zeroing in on the smaller details.

Washington has a history of not finishing or slacking we just where able to pull it off without consequence Saturday. All wins are good but they are not above being critique . A&T has yet to play a complete game yet . Even last season the second half has always been a challenge for our team ( offense to score and defense to stop the score) to close out the win . Monmouth , Gardner-Webb, Robert Morris and Northern Alabama just to name a few where we either lost or allowed the opponents to get back in the games or they shot themselves in the foot to lose the game . It would be difficult to say this If we were using backups but A&T's starters are still in the game going deep into the 3 and 4th qtr with a lead that we can not add to and a defense that can't stop the opponent from scoring . Don't get it twisted, I believe in the Bend Don't break theory of the game but I also believe in the domination theory for all four quarters..i.e if you dominate from the start you should dominate too the end . No team leads their starters on the field not to score or stop the score into the third and fourth quarters . I'm thinking is that Washington is trying to imprint this on both the offense and defense by playing them late into these quarters . But massage is not connecting somewhere down the line . Now maybe the time to deliver the massage in person ..i.e I'm leaving you guys out there on both sides of the ball to score and stop them from scoring by dominating the game , this is not a time to take a break get your asses out there and dominate like you did in the first half all the way to the end of the game then you can take your break . This slacking off could cost us a game down the road .

Finish was one of our main focuses going into the season so the coaching staff is well aware of our ability to get lazy. Its little things like that that make me unsatisfied with our current staff. Luckily RMU is a bad team but a team like Campbell won’t allow us to be so lucky

I see both sides.
I’m of the kill a mosquito with a sledgehammer and burn its remains mindset, but at the same time they weren’t finna come back from 30-0.
Tbh, in my lil brief rec coaching career I loved mistakes because it gave me something to harp on. Keeping kids focused for four quarters is one thing, but imagine trying to keep them focused after demolishing a team for four straight quarters (or eight even) going into a homecoming game against a team that matches up against you incredibly well and ain’t trying to lose a second homecoming game in a two. A lot easier to 'em focused after two sheeet quarters.

There is a psychological effect on players when they can't score or get scored on by a team that the have been dominating but all of a sudden the offense can't score and the defense can't stop a team from scoring. When a coach sees the intensity level dropping amongst his starters he should pull them and let the backups play because they are fresh and hyped up .

The starters were pulled late after mustering up 2 field goals. RM was selling out on the run which kind of limits what we could practice. I see nothing wrong with coasting for almost a quarter and a half due to the lead.
We were far from home and had a long trip. Let's not show to much and get back home and get ready for Campbell. It's mid season. We have played better teams than Campbell, so their talent shouldn't be a surprise. Time to move on.
Funny how people be talking about experience but then some complain when we do just that. Based on some people philosophy we should have played Hooker halfway through the 3rd. But the other half think El(upgrade from Chico) needs to get as many reps as possible for this year. We gotta beat Campbell. The RM game went to "What's best to beat Campbell?" after the first half.

I'm struggling with when to pull Tuten and Fowler. At this point, I think that if either of them go down we'll have some pretty big issues.

No graves, dixion,Romello and (even Dorien Stewart) is still a threat but Hooker come on man there's no comparison 4th string QB for one time let's be honest.

I am just not sold we going to win the game unless we get a 100 percent buy in from Folwer he cannot turn the ball over. They going to pack 8 guys in the box so Folwer passing game needs to be on point. If you all think our defense will win the game you all are not being realistic. They have the #1 offense in the bigsouth. I know we have the #defense but we going to have to be able to move the chains get first down get the crowd in the game and score points consistently. I am a sore losing if we lose I am done for the rest of the season!!! Just look forward to ELI Sensation to play next year!!!

a coach should "never" let his team take the foot off the pedal because often that tendency is hard to break. you mess around and take the foot off the pedal against the wrong team (cough, cough, garner webb) and you'll wind up getting your azz kicked.
worse thing in the world is for a head coach to allow his team to adopt "bad habits" such as letting up when you have a big lead. once you let that genie out of the bottle, its hard to put it back in...
