The new program director, hired by athletics director Earl Hilton at a salary of $160,000 annually before any bonuses for team or individual achievement on the track or in the classroom, won't lack for commitment from his university.
Q: What interested you the most in taking this position at A&T?
AJ: "It's a great program. What Coach Ross has been able to do with it is absolutely phenomenal. Just having that opportunity to carry on that legacy from A&T. It came up abruptly, and when it came up, I was like, 'Wow, I would love to have the opportunity to go down there and run that program.'
"It will be my first experience being at an HBCU. So I'm also intrigued by that. It's just a great opportunity to continue the profile of an HBCU. A lot of times people, myself included, when you think of teams being prominent in the NCAA, you don't think of an HBCU. We're going to continue to change that."

The article implies an incentive-laden contract which is a good structure for a first year head coach.

If it's true, this is an important point to me:
- With the limitation of scholarships, it's very difficult to be good in all of the events at the same time.
Expect some/many don't know/understand it.

Just to be clear, I don’t believe he’s talking about budgetary. He’s just saying that you only have a certain number of athletes you can give scholarship dollars to. Can’t give full rides to sprinters, distance runners and throwers. Gotta pick your poison.

From the article:
A&T's program is fully funded regarding scholarships permitted by the NCAA, with 12.6 for men and 18 for women.
So in other words, send your donations for the grass 😀

So send your donations for the grass 😀 That's great news... we weren't there last year. But we still were down an assistant coach, a director of track & field operations, a dedicated T&F trainer and anything remotely resembling a separate T&F training facility. So there's still PLENTY to do with T&F.

I don't pretend to know how all of this works, but scholarship limitations can be supplemented with academic scholarships, right? What I'm getting at is can we offer full or part academic scholarships to kids to be able to bring in our number of events talent up?

"I don't pretend to know how all of this works, but scholarship limitations can be supplemented with academic scholarships, right?" Your correct, The academic split with athletics is done more often than what most people think . 60% athletics 40% academics or 70% -30% are good offer splits , 80%-20% is an excellent split for academically prepared athletes. Truthfully speaking 100% athletic scholarships are few an far between especially for the need based student athletes. There is always away 😆🤣😂 . Also If and athlete receive a scholarship for a D1 headcount sport, you're guaranteed a full-ride. But there are only six headcount sports. If you play an equivalency sport, you can increase your chances of getting more scholarship money

I know more than likely we won't get a press conference until after Worlds but can coach at least change his twitter profile 😂

He "officially" starts his tenure today. Expect all the minutia to flip over after the Monday holiday.
