IMO... we should have NEVER been worrying about who Earl was going to hire as our next Director of T&F Programs.
Why? Because NONE of us on this board could control any aspect of that process.
And Earl Hilton is the only D1 mid-major AD to make a jackpot hire in T&F over the last 20+ years when he hired Ross in 2012. If anyone knew what he was doing... it was Earl.
It's clear that Coach Johnson has probably been trying to break through as a Head Coach given his resume. Glad we came along as a mutually beneficial opportunity.
Now comes the part that we CAN control. And that's alumni fiscal support of Coach Johnson's program in a way that we did not do for Coach Ross, despite the massive successess.
And I'm not talking $18.91 Club Level either (although I appreciate everyone who's doing it).
Making all of this noise on a message board but not matching it with your $$$ might make you feel better from a free speech perspective. But from an Athletics Budget perspective... it's pretty pointless.
So get your pockets ready... if you're REALLY serious about winning. Whether you're gearing up for the eventual Capital Campaign or just giving more of what we all know needs to be given (because we know it's the right thing to do)... we gotta be real with ourselves & do more, whether you're getting something in return immediately or not.
IMO... It's put up or shut up time for our alumni... starting with us.

Another thing that impresses me is in the past nobody with that pedigree would’ve taken the job. I remember Phil Ford practically cursing our existence every time our mens basketball job came open because someone somewhere would mention him as a potential candidate and we were too far beneath him. Likewise we couldn’t get any higher profile experienced coaches in almost any sport. It was almost always reclamation projects or chance hires.
This could truly signal a turning of the corner.

Deion made coaching at HBCUs popular 😂😂😂😂

Our track itself is more of the revenue generator than the success of the program if you are talking straight dollar amount. Track, like most sports in FCS, doesn't really have a value attached to it monetarily. Its about exposure and popularity, which brings in more paying students.

I receive and understand that, my point is we need money, apparently for facilities, a vehicle that is suppose to bring a bag to the coffers is not towing the line. It’s was stated that our BOT stated that a highly sought after assistant P5 Coach whose ear we had, was too expensive, and I also heard that the price was less than ROSS. If the University is going to ask for support they should show that they A: or legitimately seeking to provide us the best we can afford. B: Make winning decisions for both facilities and programs. Corporations shut down subsidiaries that are not bringing a bag to the bank, or Explain with legit reasons why we struggle to have funds for facilities, yet continue to pour money into a black hole.

How much money does track generate, Im on board with Mr Hilton, I want to see him do this for our other REVENUE SPORT, BASKETBALL! Monster is right. Track & Field doesn't generate gate revenue. The track generates revenue for national meets like Adidas/New Balance, etc. But how much market value did A&T Track & Field generate for producing three top-4 team finishes at the NCAA National Championships in the space of one year... including multiple individual/relay national titles? And how much market value did A&T Track & Field generate for producing TWO Olympic Gold Medalists from Tokyo? And... can we imagine what that value would be IF we would have won a NCAA Team National Championship?! None of our other sports were close to competing at that level. And behind the scenes... Coach Will Jones is doing a great job of being our program's best fundraiser. And that's not close, either. Everyone at A&T is in a bind given the HR situation. The best thing we as alumni can do is bump our giving, so that the budget offsets allow more freedom in addtional hiring once we can get them through... in addition to laying the foundation for facility/support infrastructure improvements. We know what needs to be done. The question is do we want to do it?

247sports.com/college/ncat/Article/north-carolina-hbcu-aggies-track-field-duane-ross-Tennessee-allen-johnson-olympics-400m-ncat-188987309/No other current athlete in Track & Field had been as good for as long as Johnson had, and only a handful have been so in the history of the sport. He has won four World Championship gold medals (1995, 1997, 2001, 2003), an Olympic gold medal (1996), has been ranked number one in the world four times, and has been ranked number two in the world another four times. Four-time world champion Allen Johnson is one of the all-time hurdling greats. But the 1996 Olympic champion says that jetlag was one of the toughest barriers he had to overcome during his career.

I'm looking forward to hearing Coach Johnsons vision for the program going forward and his execution of that vision.
