.....and I still wonder how some of us would behave if we were in that same predicament. I really don't believe we would be as civil as we would like to think we'd be. A man clowning your wife in front of you over her medical ailment.....hell to the no - I don't buy we'd be "Obama" or "MLK civil." I can't say I know how I'd act in the same predicament. I can say I hope I wouldn't feed into the stereotype regarding Black people being led by emotion and prone to violence, especially in the middle of a nationally televised premiere awards show.

In a split second its hard to say what I would do because you're in the moment. Would i have stepped on stage? maybe. Would I have slapped him? Probably not, but I may have grabbed the mic and pushed him out the way and said something like "f**k what he said, my wife is and always will be beautiful. You rude MFer!" That would have gotten Will way more praise and boosted his fame, but again, it was split second and emotional.

I am glad you posted this article because, when Neighborhood posed his question of what would I do if someone disrespected my wife. While gathering my thoughts of how I would respond, it instantly came to me. In all likelihood, I would do nothing because, my wife would be dead on his/her azz who disrespected her. Not that I would not come to her defense in a time of need but, my wife just isn't that woman. She would not allow that to happen to her under any circumstances. So if I'm honestly answering the question, in all probability I wouldn't have to do a thing. I think what is getting lost in all of this is the proper decorum that needs to be displayed in such an event. What happened to the "Never let them see you sweat!" adage that we as blacks have had to always embrace? Whatever happened to keeping your head when all about you is losing theirs...? I could almost understand had it been a younger generation person who doesn't understand the standard the we must meet so we don't fall under the continued scrutiny that we've faced since the beginning of time. So, of course now the narrative will continue to be "Ya see they can get a lot of money but, they still act the same!" It's unfortunate, nobody wins!

I just saw it as a punk move man...it's one thing to address/confront someone with an issue you have with them but, to do it there and you know he can't really hit you back. Its just wild to me. As Steve Harvey mentioned, he smacks Chris then turns his back on him because, he knew Chris couldn't respond in kind. So, it opens up a variety of angles of how it could be perceived. The average man wouldn't necessarily see that as handling it as a man because, he knew nothing would happen to him. You get to hit me but, I don't get to hit you. He used Hollywood to his advantage. But, it would foul if Chris Rock sued him for a few million.

I just watched it again and noticed something I ain't notice before. Chris was finna square up on Will for a quarter-second after he slapped him and then he regained his composure.
Can you even imagine if Chris had thrown on him?

What made me cringe was Smith's acceptance speech stating that he was a 'vessel for God's love'...God's love is always complemented with grace and mercy, neither of which Smith displayed. His actions feed into the narrative that black men are slaves to their emotions and unable to compose themselves under pressure. Our cemeteries are littered with black men who felt a hit was justifiable retaliation for a word and their opponent felt that a bullet was justifiable retaliation for a hit.

I promise I'm done after this. LOL. But check out this new footage that was just released. After Will has his Five Heartbeats "I gotta fight every night to prove my love" moment and walks back to his seat, Jada is seen laughing at Chris's next joke about being slapped. And then in a move that is probably the most bizarre, she doesn't acknowledge Will AT ALL. She doesn't reach out to him. She doesn't even look at him. This whole thing is just weird....and this is what I mean by their antics. As it has already been stated, there were numerous ways that Will and Jada could have handled this. The joke was in poor taste, but their actions afterwards were monumentally worse and will forever be etched in the history of Hollywood...and not in a good way either. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CbvthnNquBP

Interesting.
Sometimes playing “the man role” doesn’t sit well with the very person we think we’re protecting.

Interesting. Sometimes playing “the man role” doesn’t sit well with the very person we think we’re protecting. Especially when that person has NO respect for you . Hell they were seated 6 feet apart and she never looked his way until that joke . The one thing I love about the counseling field is it teaches you Body Language Dynamics and how to identify toxic emotions Will has bitten off more than he can chew and will try anything to his own detriment to show this woman his love and his manhood . She already eviscerated him at the red table and in front of the world . Hell the dude is just P whipped and acting out because he has no idea how to get out and away from that toxic relationship.
