It exposed our coaching, not facilities or talent. Facilities is not our issue, it’s coaching always has been and will continue to be if we recycle coaches. The CAA will expose all 3. I like Hilton and his mindset, however the build on the go idea is not sitting well with me. He's got to know something that is going to happen in the future that we not in the profession don't know. I can only hope. Thanks to the NCAA changes, we don't have a choice, unfortunately. We gotta get with it or get lost honestly.

As far as facilities I don't know if this is still the case, but in the past I've heard commentators during Delaware and Rhode Island football games openly criticizing their press boxes. We might not be as far behind in some spots as we think, but that depends on what schools we're comparing ourselves to. Delaware had a mobile home as a press box (like we did) but looks like they changed it out recently. Attachments:

I just don't want us to live middle of the pack in every sport besides T&F competitively. That is something that will be hard for me take. Hilton will have to make sure our breadwinners (football, basketball, now T&F) are firing on all cylinders, because I fear we may start to lose some of our fan base if we stay mediocre.

In my subjective thinking, our institutions seek status from those who benefit from us being present and not the other way around. One day I hope we return to the MEAC, our own - a conference we built, and use what is learned from this to sustain it, but also see it as our own and not something we're apart of. I have a similar hope but not regarding the MEAC. I look at these moves as necessary in order to learn the type of skills and practices that are necessary to achieve true excellence. It's just like a kid going off to business school, working in a corporate environment, and then coming back to the neighborhood to start a business. My hope is that we learn enough to be able lead a group of like-minded HBCUs into the highest level of competition. We've done more in the last 8 years to move in that direction than we have in the previous 40 years. Still a long way to go, but the MEAC wasn't an infrastructure where we could get better fast enough in all sports. I do not like the CAA at all. But there were a lot of things I didn't like in my life that made me better.

Can't ever see a return to the MEAC unless some of those schools really get serious and invest in their own betterment.

As much as I respect our AD, he's really going to earn that 6-figure pay with this move because he's going to have to really fundraise those corporate dollars.

Let me understand this, one down year in football means consistent? Considering the fact that we finished as expected based on the early season polls. FAMU and Morgan were less talented than us Additionally, look at our basketball record and the teams we have lost too. We have the most talent in BS men’s basketball Polls are people opinion, nothing more nothing less. I would agree with you about Morgan, but not FAMU. As for polls, yes they are opinions, but like it or not, they matter and are influential.

Honestly from my experience none of these schools are diehard "football" schools. They generally just have enough budget, proper infrastructure, and patience with their coaches to do well every so often. The last time Elon fired their head football coach was 2013. The guy that replaced him had three losing seasons in a row and left of his own accord. It's been so long since William and Mary fired a coach I couldn't find any actual information. They may have fired one in the 1960s. Seriously. Towson hasn't fired a coach since 2008. Richmond last fired a coach in 1994. Talk about patience. Their fanbases must not be as rabid, or they just know that the conference is ridiculously competitive and if they wait long enough and their coaches gain enough experience their day in the sun will come. I guess if you're pumping the kind of money into your programs they are then you can make your own sun at some point Well fellas, we've come a long way from no field house, no budget increases, "NC 0 & T," and m&m fundraisers. IMO we're not far enough away from it to sniff success, but the invite is a first step. Here's hoping that we invest very heavily in all facets of the school so we aren't laughingstocks. Only ones with a football history is Delaware & JMU. It isn’t the same emphasis because they’ll have the money anyway as schools, and it isn’t a crazy college sports region of the country. Got a friend that went to school at UD & said the enthusiasm basically dies anywhere in the north. I dunno bout that. Will & Mary hasn't had the greatest on the field success, but their past head coaches have included Marv Levy and Lou Holtz. They're a playoffs every four to five years team. Villanova won a national championship over Montana. I was actually at the game. They're usually a top 25 team. Towson made it to the national championship game in d-3 and back in 2013 against NDSU. Haven't done much since. Elon has five NAIA national championship appearances and two NAIA national championships. Richmond won a national championship in 2008. They're another streaky playoff team that'll go a few years in between playoff berths and then have several years of playoff runs. New Hampshire and Maine are also in the streaky playoff team category. Very competitive league that's been overshadowed by NDSU.

Man I forget who they were playing but the commentators had on coats and were literally shivering during the game. They were trying to be professional but I don't know how many times they talked about how cold it was. This is an exciting, scary, ridiculous time. I guess I'm happy our administration positioned us properly in a way to take advantage. Hopefully the "if we build it they will come" attitude that seems to be in play here works and works well for us. I don't know how many former juco, no program, or d-3 programs rocketed right past us in the past 20 years with the same mindset and are all doing fine (and experiencing continued expansion to boot). I assume that's the mindset that's driving all these changes.

Hilton said, the loss of "potential growth and leveraging would concern me." I wonder what he hopes to leverage?

My expectation and based on Dr. Martin's comments, I believe we would have gone to the CAA initially if they would have had the divisions breakout. That said, I don't believe our competitive level will be as bad as some might think. It makes sense to me (get it while you can) and I'm good with it. Let's go! I appreciate the positivity but I genuinely don’t see a single sport we can compete in right now except track. Men’s basketball would get blown out the water, women’s basketball is a toss up but I think their ceiling would be middle of the pack, football the same as WBB, bowling might be successful, volleyball a toss up, etc etc. I don’t see it That was really the same for the Big South...only T&F would/should be able to win championships. It's just that the CAA is a little more competitive. I'm cool with that and expect we'll get our ducks in a row and be able to win some sports soon. Hopefully football (which I expect) being one or the first. Dr. Martin, apparently, HATE losing more than loving winning. I expect we're gonna see our recruiting change, with more high level kids wanting to make AggieLand their home. What we need is for Aggies to get on board...whether loving it, skeptical, hate it, etc.
