QB’s mature in different ways…You see it all the time at FBS schools when a guy that’s a redshirt junior / senior takes over and folks are surprise how good he is. Fowler certainly had talent in front of him and needed to mature as a QB.
On the flip side I would be willing to bet that Between Yeager, Wilds, and Hooker one of them is more equipped to play right away.

This thread is about Fowler and his potential.
To my knowledge we've never had a roster of qbs with this level of potential in the history of the program. Not even close.
To be fair, my only knowledge of Ifedi is his terrible day against us at ECU, him running over people against Del State, and video game numbers from the spring game. Y'all would know better than me. But I'm assuming he's getting the same coaching Fowler and the other qbs are getting, and we know it's good coaching. Ifedi is probably a step below Carter. Not as good a passer but a better runner. We won a championship with that cat.
We've got the supporting cast to get it done with any of the guys in the qb room imo. We'd just have to execute and the margin for error would be a lot smaller if it wasn't Fowler taking snaps.

I think Fowler got some good run, last year, that knocked quite a bit of rust off from not having played very much for 3 years. I think he's gonna be a problem because he's an excellent passer, is big and can run the ball and has a Maserati (running game & receivers) around him so he doesn't have to feel like he has to do it all himself. I spoke to him at the last camp and told him I hoped he'd be a "Cerebral Assassin"...have his head in the game/not get rattled and kill them in the passing game.
I'm ok with Ifedi being his backup, though he would be more of a runner.
Gilliam has been in the program for 2 years but I hear Hooker was 3rd coming our of Spring camp. We'll see what happens out of Fall camp.

The funny thing is I just have a feeling that Fowler is past the nervous hesitation he once had and is ready to step up into QB1. I actually think he will be better than any QB we've had in the last 10 years in their first start because of two things:(1)his ball speed, or as Washington says "he can spin it" and (2)receivers and new receivers coach will make their presence felt. I'm not sure we've ever had a two-deep receiving corps like this.

I think I heard rumblings that Hooker took his spot on the depth chart. But I could be mistaken. You are kidding. Hooker is not even on Scholarships. This cat is so small!!!He got to get in the weight room.

I think I heard rumblings that Hooker took his spot on the depth chart. But I could be mistaken. I've heard that. I think kid from Minnesota is being redshirted. And hope it's true. No need for him to lose 2 years as a 3rd string when he can retain 1 and be a Redshirt Sophomore when he takes the reins

Yeah, Hooker is only 3rd because they are redshirting Yeager. They expect him to be a better QB than Hooker or at least for them to battle it out, but its obvious by them saving a year for Yeager they think more highly of him. Redshirting can be good sometimes. Fowler is the #1 and if he never goes down there is no point in getting all the way to your 3rd QB and wasting a year of eligibility in year 1. If Fowler never goes down they can redshirt them both. Remember we still have that new 3 games rule. You can still redshirt and play in 3 games.

If Hooker is third on the depth chart, they need to give Gilliam his walking papers.
If you have been in the program for over 3 years and can't beat out a walk-on true freshman, you will never get any meaningful reps here.

And the other posts here make some good points about strategy.

Fowler has a tendency to stare down his receiver. With that one exception, I'm hoping he'll have a great year.

It will be interesting to see if Barnette has been able to coach that out of him in the past year off. I suspect he has.

What order would you take these cats in: Kindle, Quick, Femi, Klugh, Ifedi? All the cats except Ifedi have started for us and won plenty of games without us having to "change our offense to the triple option." From what I remember Ifedi vastly outperformed Fowler in the spring game a couple years ago. Just because he's more of an athlete than a pure qb we don't need to denigrate his ability or say all is lost if Fowler goes down. Quick Kindle Femi Klugh Ifedi * Ifedi is a wildcat quarterback
