I just put my finger on it. He reminds me of Keith Matkins.
Matkins was so much better than any qb we'd ever had. He was big and had a cannon. Not super-mobile, but not a statue.
The only area where I questioned Fowler was his ability to play up to the speed of the college game. When he walked into that stressful situation and didn't miss a beat I felt he'd arrived.
Now he's had a year's tutelage with Barnette and you know he's shown him everything under the sun... And he's got one hell of a supporting cast.
I think Fowler sets single season records (provided coach lets him, lol). I am very high on Fowler. I'm thinking he can make at worst second-team all-conference right out the gate.

Fowler will be an x-factor for sure. In fact, I think he's going to take votes away from Martin in December when it comes to the Walter Peyton Award. He's going to be that good for us.
Between Martin and our O-Line, Fowler will have plenty of opportunities to throw for 3,000+ yards this season.
My Stats prediction:
67 completion % 3,100 yards or more 25 TDs / 5 INTs

Fowler has way better passing mechanics right now that Matkins ever had.
Matkins was just a big guy with arm. Fowler is actually a student of the game.
If his confidence remains high he will put up pinball numbers this season.

I'll go with Oleschool on this one and remain cautiously optimistic. We haven't really seen him under extreme pressure and adversity during a full game. There's no doubt he can play but, what happens when things start to spiral out of control, where will his head be...?

This dude has never started a game we have not seen him play a entire game from end to end Obviously some of you are must have seen him play a entire season in the Twilight zone from some of these posts I'm reading I get it he has a lot of potential but he has so much to prove particularly when he's under pressure the Duke game is going to be a good test. That's why I'm going to cautiously wait and reserve my comments after the Duke game

No way Matkins is the best qb we have ever had. No way!! As Thrilla said he was just big with a strong arm.
I never saw him manage a complete game with authority. He did not win the Big one's.
Really I had forgotten about him because he did not do anything that was greatly memorable.
He was half azz but not the best ever at T.

Fowler is going to shock you all. I have faith in him It's not about faith I believe he has the potential to be a good quarterback I think most of us are just questioning his lack of experience it's definitely time for him to step up this is his team my other concern most people don't talk about is if he gets hurt how much of a drop off we're going to have with ilfedi being the starting quarterback

Really I had forgotten about him because he did not do anything that was greatly memorable. He was half azz but not the best ever at T. Well, potentially the best. Lol. We had no business making him share time with anybody, and that hampered his ability. The one game I attended they let him play from beginning to end he went 17-22 for 324 yards and around four touchdowns. And we still lost. He wasn't coached or used properly imo, but he had the tools. He was a Parade All-American for Pete's sake. I think he held the school record for completion percentage by a sophomore for 20 years (which I acknowledge ain't saying much). I remember his first pass in Aggie stadium. He overthrew CC by 10 yards on a deep route but the whole crowd gasped because we'd never seen an Aggie qb with that kind of arm strength. Potentially.... Sometimes you can just see it. When Randall Rankins was thrown to the wolves against Southern in Vegas they put him out for one series and pulled him. He threw a couple of incompletes but the poise was there. I told my peeps that that little qb was gonna be good. The next week they started him against Elon and he put up a ton of yards and ran them crazy. He was going to set some records until he got hurt. When Fowler first came out there he wasn't ready. But when he went out against FAMU, you could see it. He's ready. And if he messes around and beats Furman his confidence will be sky-high. If he's injured heaven-forbid, it'll be the next man up just like always. We have three or four more guys I would trust to take snaps that are probably already better qbs than a few of the guys we put out there when Broadway first arrived. If Ifedi has to take over we lead the conference in rushing, by a lot lol.

If Fowler gets hurt we might as well change our offense to the triple option.

What order would you take these cats in: Kindle, Quick, Femi, Klugh, Ifedi?
All the cats except Ifedi have started for us and won plenty of games without us having to "change our offense to the triple option." From what I remember Ifedi vastly outperformed Fowler in the spring game a couple years ago. Just because he's more of an athlete than a pure qb we don't need to denigrate his ability or say all is lost if Fowler goes down.
