I've heard so many horror stories from local parents when it comes to our recruiting. I'll just leave it at that. But this coaching staff does not have a very good reputation in the city.

I don't have a problem with their recruiting because, obviously look for a certain type of athlete in certain positions. But, you just hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the end. Because, man, you have a guy that would've flipped from UMd and all our coaches had to do was make a phone call, now that gets to be a little fickle. Lastly, the guy played both DB and WR in high school, and to see how our DBs struggled, it makes you wonder...that's all.

Hey, if they can bring in 16 more Karon Pruntys on Feb.3 I wont be complaining.
At the end of the day, this is a make or break season for them so they need to bring in the guys they feel who can help them win.

Then this years class will be top heavy with portal guys... HS Players like the two discussed from Grimsley would not contribute in 2022

I know they get a lot of people coming to them pushing a kid that may always cut the mustard but, I just hope it doesn't come back around. I've never had an issue with their recruiting so I trust who they plan on getting this year as well. But, as you said, it will need to pay dividends this season.

i hear ya. but you gotta remember, our staff can't just offer every prospect in sight a scholarship. not to mention that they have a "limit" on how many scholarships they can offer. so if they offer every prospect in the world, who's to say that they will have enough scholarships available. there's a method to the madness. can't just willie neelie offer scholarships to countless numbers of athletes. you've got to go after your "priorities" first and foremost, and then you don't wanna waste time and money pursuing a prospect that you have next to "no chance" of signing. its a very delicate "balance" that our coaches (and all coaches for that matter) must strike. coaches can't read the minds of prospects and their parents. if a parent wants their son or daughter to attend an hbcu and their son or daughter "wants" to attend an hbcu, then they should directly contact the hbcu school(s) that they're most interested in... Don't get me wrong, I understand that...I really do. But, at least reach out and talk to the kid. Just think, the same thing probably would have happened to Tarik Cohen but, he had Trei Oliver advocating for him when he was on the staff. His last pitch to Coach Broadway was to at least go see him play. Once he did, the rest is history. It doesn't cost you anything to pick up the phone and know the young man's mother waited for a call for roughly 4 to 5 weeks. I would check in with her just to see if anyone had reached out and it was nothing. The kid could play basketball too now...can you say jump out the gym. But, all I'm sayin, is it may be inconvenient at times but, that inconvenience could pay off if you just reach out. ohsixrain - There IS a cost and that's time. My expectation is that our low resourced coaching staffs get MANY inquiries about kids and cannot contact or spend time on all or MOST of them. I could say more but hopefully that's enough when coupled with OSAs comments.

Just wondering because we don't hear much about Maryland football around these parts.

It was really strange because, he was not listed on the roster at all when I went to look him up but, he played in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in New York against Va. Tech. His name is Corey Dyches, that's why I remember so well, his last name is not a common name at all. He caught 1 pass and took a hard hit and it look like he got hurt so, we didn't see him any more in the game. But, my point was, he was 2 star athlete in basketball and I think, not sure, 3 star in football. We wouldn't even reach out to him. I talked to his mother on many occasions and she wanted him to consider HBCUs but, not 1 reached out to him, yet he's at Maryland. It was just some food for thought.

They have him listed as a Tight End. He caught 19 passes for 230 yards and 4 TDs this past season at UMD. At 6’2, 230 Lbs, he kind of reminds me of Elijah Bell I suppose. I guess we felt that we had the weapons already at WR and we really don’t utilize the TE like that oddly so I guess things worked out in the end. Perhaps if he ever enters the portal, we’d reach out. 🤷🏿♂️

It's hard to get a read on what we want recruit as an offense. From a high level, it seems we load the cupboard at all positions on offense but, on game day the utilization of those weapons/talent is something to be desired. I'm not sure we could lure him away from Maryland, whose coach has Alabama Crimson Tide pedigree and he's getting playing time as a freshman. Just me two cents.
