Originally committed to Akron, but they had a coaching change.

You know what bothers most is you can do all you can to help our program and it’s like they ignore the help. Case and point, there was a two Athlete in PG county, that had several offers from FBS schools. The signing day came and he didn’t sign with the University of Maryland which he gave a verbal. I just happened to be at a basketball game that he played in and asked where he going to school (for basketball) he said he committed to Md for football. I simply said well if it doesn’t work out, consider NC A&T. He immediately turned and told me to talk to his mom. She tells me she wanted him to go to a hbcu not even her alma mater (Hampton) reached out to him or offered him. I told her I would reach out to our coaches, which I did, and spoke to Gibbs at a basketball game. Long story short, just saw him catch a pass for Maryland against Va Tech in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. I mean, what can you do…?

Somehow, I think the placement of star status puts an off limits tag on a kid. Hopefully, with recent 4 and 5 star signings, this will no longer be the case.

I mean, what can you do…? i hear ya. but you gotta remember, our staff can't just offer every prospect in sight a scholarship. not to mention that they have a "limit" on how many scholarships they can offer. so if they offer every prospect in the world, who's to say that they will have enough scholarships available. there's a method to the madness. can't just willie neelie offer scholarships to countless numbers of athletes. you've got to go after your "priorities" first and foremost, and then you don't wanna waste time and money pursuing a prospect that you have next to "no chance" of signing. its a very delicate "balance" that our coaches (and all coaches for that matter) must strike. coaches can't read the minds of prospects and their parents. if a parent wants their son or daughter to attend an hbcu and their son or daughter "wants" to attend an hbcu, then they should directly contact the hbcu school(s) that they're most interested in...

Don't get me wrong, I understand that...I really do. But, at least reach out and talk to the kid. Just think, the same thing probably would have happened to Tarik Cohen but, he had Trei Oliver advocating for him when he was on the staff. His last pitch to Coach Broadway was to at least go see him play. Once he did, the rest is history. It doesn't cost you anything to pick up the phone and know the young man's mother waited for a call for roughly 4 to 5 weeks. I would check in with her just to see if anyone had reached out and it was nothing. The kid could play basketball too now...can you say jump out the gym. But, all I'm sayin, is it may be inconvenient at times but, that inconvenience could pay off if you just reach out.
