Of course, I think this would have to be a single admission double-header for this concept to work.
Move the CB back to 4:30 and have the SWAC/MEAC allstar game at noon. The allstar game should move pretty fast since their wouldn't be any TV timeouts, so you should still have enough time for both of the CB teams to stretch and warmup before kickoff.
I'm pretty sure Mercedes=Benz Stadium has enough locker room space to accommodate all those players for 2 different games.

I would like for them to move the time. 12 is too early to make a game and create any kind of atmosphere. I got there at 12 and half the people were still not in the stadium. I could care less about being the first game our viewership outweighs all early bowls with better time slots. We should be able to negotiate a better time. I have long said that I think this should be a HBCU celebration weekend. They could do battle of the bands this weekend along with an HBCU basketball tournament (small) with D2 schools and our schools. If we make it more than football and about culture now you are talking an HBCU event. One that can draw celebrities to attend. I would love for the swac to get rid of their championship game butI am not sure that's the problem seemingly alcorn played at home and they didn't really have to travel for their championship game. I think it's lack of culture. It's too ESPNish... Because we've been so many times we kind of know how to make it a black event but it's not really a black event. The one advantage of having the game start at 12 is we are the first bowl game on TV at that time. Like it or not, I think that may help our TV ratings since we are the only game in town until later that day.

We should be used to the early start as a fanbase as GHOE starts at 1pm. I wouldn't change the time of the game, as doing so would go against ESPN's goals; TV ratings.

And there is something to be said about that. That in itself is something to be celebrated. I read an article earlier this week that in effect said that this bowl is not like all of the other random bowls that fill the early part of the bowl season with random schools. This indeed is a celebration of our institutions and our distinct legacy and I like the fact that we go first to lead this off. We should remain as the lead off to bowl season in my humble opinion.

IMO we shouldn't try and copy the CIAA model . Their's is a financial bust for the conference, the city and all of the party sponsors are making a killing but none of that goes to the conference . We should not even consider changing the game time ,the start time is the reason for the high viewership ,and lest we forget this is a made for TV event . ESPN and the sponsors dictate everything and they know better than us what's better for them .

Ok, well maybe we can have the HBCU Senior Bowl on Friday night, which we will still give HBCU football fans from non-CB schools a reason to travel to Atlanta that weekend.
Just gotta find some way to create a ticket package to make both events affordable.

We definitely don't want to end up with day parties overshadowing the football game.

There are only 2 years left on the current Celebration Bowl deal. It will be interesting to see if Disney (ESPN) will offer an extension to the MEAC and the SWAC.
As a side note, I remember when the Celebration Bowl was announced and we learned that we would forgo our automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. Many wondered, including me, if this would be good for our university and questioned if 'we' would travel to a bowl game the weekend before Christmas. Four years into the Aggie Atlanta Invitational, we know those answers.

I hope we make the December trip two more times before they renew the contract.

I think the whole notion that a different time slot will be bad for us is mythical. ESPN knows that HBCU viwership is a gold mine and the interest is different demographic that is going to watch regardless of time. Did anyone notice that both black conferences have ESPN3 deals, that is not the case for most FCS conferences most of them are on ESPN plus where you need a subscription to watch.
App State bowl game 23k people.. viewership terrible.. that's because the only people who care about App State is App State ... Black college football has its own viewership and it's worth a lot more than mid major FBS programs and mostly all FCS programs. It's why we were invited to Montgomery it's why they created the swac meac challenge at the beginning of the year it's why we (HBCU) play on ESPN Thursday night more than any other FCS schools..ESPN gets it- we just have to and leverage it.
We don't need to sell ourselves short for a great time slot. We could be able to negotiate better pay out and even more exposure.
I am willing to bet if you have that game at 3:30 it would get more viewership. 12 noon is too early for people to get to the game and for people to watch the game.
Regardless of what you say about the CIAA its still known is the best celebration of HBCUs anywhere. Because it is about culture. The stadium is empty is because it's basketball and Schools that size have a hard time filling up High School gyms let alone a NBA arena. Has nothing to do with Day parties etcm..
You do what CIAA does with Div 1 black colleges and fan bases ... Jeez it would be incredible. I for one hope we make this weekend as big as humanly possible.
Change the time, invite 6-8 be top bands to a battle, and create a small 6-8 team bball tournament... Step up the party game.. then we are maximizing and it's not just ESPN maximizing..

Twelve is early but it's a good time slot for us. A later afternoon time would have put us up against an nfl game which is something we don't want.

In another thread I talked about how a parent of my son’s lacrosse teammate saw me in Ayantee gear and said he’d caught a few minutes of the bowl. That gave me the opportunity to let him know we’d beaten ECU as well. Had the game been on opposite another game he would have watched zero minutes.
The time slot helps us draw in football fans who want to see a game because we’re the only game on. It’s about viewership from ESPN’s standpoint. It’s up to us to get up earlier to get to the game.
If we have to change the way we do things to look good at this level of exposure then it shouldn’t be an issue.
