As far as Duke is concerned.......Daniel Jones is gone. I'm not saying the QB-in-waiting there won't be good.......but he won't be Daniel Jones. I like the prospects with Carter being our starting QB. If Carter isn't our starting QB, I think that bodes even better because the dude ahead of him must be legit. Carter had a fractured long bone. It ain't ligament damage. He should be completely healed from that by spring/summer. If he doesn't win the starting job, especially when considering his body of work over these past few years, the dude ahead of him must be pretty good.
I just don't think Coach Washington is EVER gonna let the defense slip. That's his wheelhouse. Great defense, a legit QB and great WRs.....not to mention Jah-Maine Martin returning.
I ain't conceding any L's to anybody.....Duke, Elon, etc.

I already figured we would beat Elon convincingly, but I thought Duke would be a longshot.
That was until I watched the video. Now I like our chances.

The fact that you don't lose your head coach from the 2018 team is what gives me the most confidence. No smack(because I leave that on MFZ and twitter) but Simmons absolutely outcoached Washington last season. no he didn't. our guys were simply "over confident", plain and simple. after beating jacksonville state and ecu, our guys' confidence was flying high, probably too high. that's the same reason we loss to morgan state, a team we'd beaten by about 40 some points the year before. just because we loss to famu by just "1 point" during the closing seconds of the game, doesn't mean washington got "out coached". your guys simply gave us their absolute "best shot" and our guys did the total opposite because we'd beaten famu "6 years straight" before that game and had no reason to expect the outcome to be any different. but 2019 will be a different season and a different outcome...

I dunno OSA, In that game, especially the 2nd half, FAMU played New England Patriots football. They controlled the ball for most of the 2nd half. They gradually moved the chains and bled the clock. Now admittedly, we shot ourselves in the foot with inopportune penalties (bonehead penalties at that). Sometimes, you gotta give the other team credit.
They outscored us 16-0 in the second half. They had more yards than us (370-331) They had less penalties (4 penalties for 26 yards vs our 13 penalties for 131 yards)
You all know how hot we were last year about how many penalties we were getting and whether our staff was instilling self-discipline as much as they should.
I gotta give the coaching nod to Simmons in that game.....but it still took our foolishness to lose that game.

I kind of agree with NSS’ assessment.
Every coach, from HOFer-to-awful, will get out-coached at some point in their career. I have no problem saying that Coach Simmons probably got the best of Coach Washington on that particular day.
Hell, Saban definitely got out-coached by Dabo in the title game, and Simmons got manhandled for three weeks in a row by Buddy Pough, Howard’s coach and BCU’s coach. IT HAPPENS.
And in the long run, we got what we wanted...another outright MEAC Title, another Celebration Bowl Championship and another check from ABC/ESPN/Disney.

No smack(because I leave that on MFZ and twitter) but Simmons absolutely outcoached Washington last season. Maybe so. Maybe not. Washington, however, ended up being named MEAC coach of the year. Simmons, his staff & his team left Greensboro with sole possession of first place AND the head-to-head tiebreaker in hand. It has to be a bad feeling to know all of that was in hand and not be able to win a game in the month of November. I'd be bitter also. On to 2019... With the above being typed, yes, FAMU may be tough for us to beat in Tally later this year. However, if we see the 'month of November coach Simmons' or the 'Jackson State end of game coach Simmons' or the 'Florida Classic QB Ryan Stanley' on the sidelines/field, I like our chances just a little bit.

Don’t give me that over confident stuff. Go look at that really closely. We figured how to get a rushing attack going in the 2nd half, got the ball to some playmakers and shut down a potent Aggie running game. Coach Simmons preached all season long about making teams one dimensional...which is exactly what we made y’all in the 2nd half of that ball game. Once we shut Cartwright down, we knew that we could bottle up Raynard. The 2nd half of that game, especially that final drive, was brilliant playcalling from Simmons and staff. Washington couldn’t keep HIS team disciplined and HE couldn’t figure out how to break out defense or stop our offense in the 2nd half. Remember, we had to deal with Cat 5 hurricane and still made the journey up to Greensboro...so that over confindent excuse does not fly. Also if we’re gonna use over confidence as an excuse, then FAMU can use that for the Howard game...or the BCU game. Because we just KNEW the conference was ours and there was no way that we would lose to Howard AND BCU.

We had some bad turnovers late in the season...we’re talking red zone INTs. I haven’t re-watched the Howard game or the BCU game, however, we had all the ability to win both of those games, but once again, multiple redzone turnovers. This season, I think some more QBs prepared to push Stanley or even replace him whenever he’s ineffective. The fact that we don’t lose much from the 2018 team, is a huge bonus. Every receiver comes back, every running back comes back(minus Bowers who fell out of the rotational in September), the bulk of the O-line, the bulk of the defense, an All-American punter. If FAMU isn’t pushing for a MEAC Title this season, then something is very wrong. And trust me, we know that A&T is strong, we know that Howard, BCU, SCSU etc will be experienced as well...but 2019 should be a great year for Rattler football.

Any ideas when we the schedule will be complete? It's mostly complete now. It should be complete probably within the next few weeks. I suspect we'll be playing in the Circle City Classic.

Most likely Tennessee State. Both have open dates for September 21.

I was also told from a member of the athletic department that the schedule is roughly two weeks away from being released and should include the date of the Spring Game. Regarding the Circle City Classic whispers, there is not cash payout for us if we're participating, is there? They just pay for travel, lodging & meals for our band, team, coaches and support staff, right? hbcugameday.com/2018/09/20/can-the-circle-city-classic-bounce-back/
