I don't know about "huge". He looks OK. He has good PG instincts but his game is still very raw and not as college-ready as I would like in a PG. He still has a lot of playground in his game. As Decks stated before... they are very few PGs that are ready as freshmen to play at D1 level out the gate. And those guys are going high major level. The question is whether the player has the core natural skills that you can't teach, but can build on. I see those PG skills in Parris. Ideally, you'd want a junior-to-be like Austin Williams to be able to take that PG role and let a player like Parris develop. But there's nothing for putting pressure on upperclassmen to perform than good recruiting behind them. Fordham is an Atlantic 10 school in New York City. I think that's a very big deal for recruiting purposes if we can recruit a player against a high-major. He also has an offer from Newberry. I just see it differently. He went from a public school(Olympic) to a private alternative K-12 school with 60 students total. The basketball program is designed to prepare players who had issues to overcome in the public school setting. Google Evelyn Mack Academy. They practice 4-5 hours a day and go to school six hours a day. Many of the players there were recommended by their AAU coach similar to prep schools. They play a Prep School schedule.

There's nothing wrong with Newberry taking a swing for the fences, either. For me, this is a plus. I'd rather have a guy who is in a setting to get focused training on educational skills heading into college than one who happens to scoot by in public school with no real focused educational prep. It's not much different than a school like Genesis Prep Academy (where we were recruiting Jahnathan Maxwell). There are some inherent risks with it, but that's recruiting at a mid-major in a nutshell.

The only reason they're listed on that site is because of football (FCS-level). When you're consistently sending 3-4 teams to the NCAA tourney each year... you're not a mid-major for basketball purposes.

Has nothing to do with football (unless Coppin State got a football team this year).

If you can't see a difference between a conference that gets 3-4 teams into the NCAA tournament on a consistent basis (and two Final 4s in the last decade) versus the majority of the schools on that list that are only getting their AQ/tournament champion in the NCAA tourney.... then we'll have to agree to disagree. We can call it high mid-major level.
