We were ALL teased (and probably did some teasing) when we grew up. The major difference now is that it is RECORDED, put on social media, sent to thousands or millions, and lives on in perpetuity and A LOT of kids can't handle that type of pressure. This reality has completely transformed social relationships and how kids interact with each other and it has also changed parenting techniques. It's hard to let something roll off your back when you go viral for getting clowned, or beat up, or whatever.
Having said that, this will be an early test for Washington. I said last year that discipline was a problem for the team. Some stuff you want to nip in the bud, and coach needs to stress that eyes are ALWAYS watching AND recording. Be careful what you do and what you say and carry yourself like a leader....at all times. That's a tough burden to bear for a bunch of 18, 19, 20 year old kids but that's the world we live in.

Wow....this was a blast from the past. Seeing names like Dee Todd took me back to a very dark chapter in A&Ts athletic history. LOL. God is good....

Bam gets half a sack and got held on his way to another one on the same series. He is getting it in. It looks like the box score credited him for a full sack.

I talk about seven different schools in the book. Two of them are Jackson State and Tougaloo. I am honored that the book was selected to be showcased at the Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson. I will present on a panel with three other scholars and I just learned that CSPAN has picked up the broadcast of that panel on August 17th. Check it out if you can:

Salute to you brother. Years ago you came up with a vision for a site operated and ran by Aggies where fans could discuss any and everything related to our university and more. Shout out to you and the rest of the admin team for keeping this site flowing and up to date. Your work and contributions have not gone unnoticed. Thanks guys for running the best HBCU fan site in the country.

The reason Maceo isn't being recognized has more to do with lack of resources than disrespect. There isn't anyone assigned the responsibility of recognizing former band members. The Blue and Gold Marching Machine is operating out of a makeshift band facility with a few paid staff members (full time & part-time) and a lot of volunteers. All the folks you see on the sidelines in Gold Coats ain't getting paid! That small staff must handle recruiting, auditioning, scholarships, classroom teaching, administrative assignments, band and ensemble practices, instrument and uniform maintenance, halftime show design and development, travel arrangement, fundraising and budget management. Right now the BGMM leadership is focused 100% on using the resources provided to put the best performance possible on the field every time they perform. That doesn't leave much time to recognizing alumni. Maybe one day they will form a Hall of Fame organization for the band like the Athletic Department and that organization will take on this responsibility. But for now, the band leadership is focused on the next band event... Band Camp in August. Honestly, Maceo's legacy and contributions to American music are far larger than what the band could honor him with. The responsibility to honor him should fall to the university, and not just the band.

Maceo is a national treasure and has been inducted into the NC Music Hall of Fame and has been honored across the globe. I plan on sending an email to the powers that be, but we need to get this one right. Honoring him will be a win-win for us and will bring more acclaim to our institution. He's one of OURS and he's one of the cornerstones of the soul/funk music sound. Time to bring him home and salute him properly.
