I believe that the next 7 days are more important to the development of this current team as the last two weeks and what a great two weeks it was. But in my opinion the next 7 days will give the team time to come down to earth and let the offense open up and give the defense time to work on fundamentals and special teams to get better. As great as the first two weeks were this team can achieve mush more. With a lot of hard work and Lady luck this could be a special season.

Great thread.
This off week will really determine how much success we can expect to have this season.
If the players can maintain focus in light of their two big wins and the coaches can instill better execution on both sides of the football, we could all be in for a memorable ride.
Howard is a good test but frankly an opponent we should beat if A&T is as good right now as many of us believe.
BTW: this is the kind of game that Bill Hayes would definitely lose back in his heyday.

I would like to go on the record and state that I was one of Bill Hayes supporters and truly believe he was one of the greatest coaches in A&T history and with saying all of that I have to with great humility, that you are so correct. Twenty years later I have not recovered from the Howard game lol.

I still haven't recovered from Del State 2000 or Morgan State 2001 when Mo Hicks fan for 437 yards and we still lost by 10 points.

I also still suffer from 93 homecoming hangover, LOL. The morgan state was also a heart breaker. Hayes had some great teams that never really lived up to their full potential.

I'm still haunted by the ESPN Thursday night game against Morgan last year that we should have won.

I believe that the next 7 days are critical to 1.) get our offense on track and 2.) give our defense time to heal and prep for Howard. Maybe this style of offense is just the new OC's style of ball. I don't know. Or maybe we need more time on offense to get our timing right. I'm not sure but I am sure that if we don't get more consistent on offense, we are going to run into trouble one weekend. I think the defense is tight but I just have a bad feeling about the offense. I don't think App State or Elon's defense was that strong that we could score more points on them.
Oh and you guys mentioned Bill Hayes. I always said that every year Bill would give you at least one of those..."WTF moments!" During your summer vacation at the beach, half way through a beer and a plate of fried fish, you would remember one of those games A&T lost during the previous football season and say..."WTF was Bill thinking trying that?!" I know he won more games at A&T's than any other football coach but sometimes he would just piss you off!

I'm still haunted by the ESPN Thursday night game against Morgan last year that we should have won. exactly!! and if i'm not mistaken, i don't believe we've "EVER" won a tv game on espnu. i could be wrong, but i don't think so. so we have an espn "curse". time to break that curse against howard. the biggest factor to me for our guys going into the howard game is "overconfidence". the coaches did a good job bringing our guys’ heads back down to earth after the app state win. now, they’re gonna have to do it again. its human nature to think that if you beat 2 bonafide socon teams, that you can automatically beat an meac team that you “crushed” last season. the coaches must guard against that kind of thinking and i suspect they will do just that...

dang! i don't see how folk can come down on the winningest football coach "ever" in our history. the only coach to "ever" win an ncaa playoff game. i tend to look at the vast majority of hayes' wins rather than the few games some folk think he shouldn't have loss. gotta remember, we wouldn't have been in a position to win a lot games in our history had it not been for bill hayes. so i ain't gone hate on hayes...

The way I see it, we just finished "our spring practice." Now the regular season begins.

We are a team that can run or pass the ball. The last drive vs Elon showed me how we can borderline 'punish' a team. Drake was blasting Elon. Kindle, with time, will strike. He is not great, but he has come thru. Rickey Lewis, in space, I cant wait.
Can we come back if we need to? Better yet, can we keep scoring if we need to?
If HU has a weak link, Broadway will find it. Lastly, A&T is not beating itself.

Side note to this conversation , Bill Hayes stopped by our practice session today . Don't know what his intentions were , but he spoke with Broadway for about twenty minutes on the field .

The word I got was that he was invited by Broadway. Not sure what the two were discussing though.
