When are we going to demand that the Athletic Department present a comprehensive fundraising plan? I'm not talking about asking 40 year-olds to purchase life insurance for a planned giving campaign; not a doughnut sale; no fish plates or any other rudimentary quickie idea. Why is Todd not using some of her famous "ACC connections" to land some major sponsors for Athletics? Why is McAlpin not using that company car to ride around and find businesses to fill the THREE empty panels on the scoreboard? Could we at least advertise A&T clubs and entities so it's not as obvious that we're lazy as hell when it comes to fundraising?

Hey DOOMS, when you see Dee at the game today, ask her if she's bringing back a big check for Athletics...atleast enough to cover her travel, since she's been there since Thursday. I'm certain she has to arrive two days in advance of most away games "for meetings." Let's pull her travel expenses for the year and compare them to the monies she brings back. Hopefully, we're atleast breaking even.

The bottom line is that D-Minus has no idea what it takes to be an AD. She didnt when she was hired and she still doesnt have a clue now. She totally incompetent when it comes to the inner workings of running a department. Shes never done it. Working at the ACC is nothing like working on campus. There are certain elements that she still has NO bearings on what to do and how to do it. She has had more than ample time to raise money (as most ADs that know what they are doing do) but she hasnt done it. She came to our Aggie Club meeting and suggested that we sell some damn M&M's with Aggie Pride on them.. What the hell kind of fundraising idea is that???. I say get rid of her over paid a$$ and get an AD in here who can grow and nurture relationships that they have developed during their time fundraising. If she aint never raised no money before she got to A&T.. then we shouldnt expect her to raise no money now. I agree with lovelespartan.. its amazing that there are still empty panels on that scoreboard after all this time.. that makes no sense at all.. does anybody know how much money the Development person makes in addition to his university vehicle?

Shonuff, I would holler at Dee if I wasn't in Charlotte.
It's my understanding she arrived early to give a presentation at the DC Aggie Club meeting on Friday night, which I'm sure 90% of the people who read this board and live in the DC area didn't bother to attend. I'm waiting on somebody to post a synopsis. I'm interested in knowing what she said and how she was received.
I voted for the Chancellor to deman results. Very, very few I-AA programs win or raise money without the school ponying up the majority of the funds.
I've said for years we should move to division II. Watch how quick everybody gets offended over the suggestion. The fact is if you have a division II budget and you can't win a game and the school isn't supporting the program... you get it.
I would like to see the job description for Dee's position. I am willing to bet money it doesn't include "find a way to fund a whole athletic department on your own." I am willing to bet money that Jim Renick promised her he would increase the resources while he was finalizing his moving arrangements to DC.
Ain't much she can do without buy-in. I think she's a pretty nice lady and she's pretty. I also think she's made some bogus hiring decisions that most of the cretins that don't understand the situtation we're in thought were brilliant and daring.
Bottom line: there's no point putting pressure on her without putting pressure on the Chancellor and Board of Trustees to act like they care. Absent that we are at best spinning our wheels.
Now if we are going to talk about replacing people you also have to worry about who you are going to replace them with. We don't seem to have that part down at all.
Examples:
1. Bill Hayes --> George Small --> Lee Fobbs 2. Alfonso Scandrett --> Charlie Davis --> Dee Todd
What I notice is that each replacement has less experience than their predecessor and yet somehow each replacement was cheered upon arrival as "just what we needed."
The only constant in all this isht is US. WE are to blame. If we didn't do this firing and hiring we wouldn't be here.

DOOMS?! She's pretty??!! WTH? So who has she hired other than Fobbs? Do you think that was a bogus decision. Where is he supposed to get the talent from (please don't say in N.C.) with no $$. Should I assume that since you seem to feel that Dee is operating within her job description, that perhaps you agree that McAlpin is also operating within his (although we've still got 3 empties)?

PRETTY? Hah. Ahhhh-hahh-hah! What are we talking about here, Dooms? Nevermind, I agree...pretty lazy, pretty slack, pretty overpaid, pretty ridiculous. Dang.

You ain't been around here long, huh?
Let me answer you point by point, because that's what I do.
Do I think hiring Fobbs was a bogus decision? I was probably the very first person on this board to state "what the hell?" which was about a quarter of a second after I found out about the hire. I have railed against it ever since. Feel free to read the threads. I also railed against the secrecy behind the interview process prior to his hiring. Now I think people understand why. Again, read the threads.
I don't care where he gets talent. I don't care if he gets talent. For years I have said if we get a coach who says "I need..." we have the wrong guy. Hayes said "I'll make..." and that is the only type of coach that will be successful at A&T.
I never said I felt Dee was operating within her job description. Read this again:"I would like to see the job description for Dee's position. I am willing to bet money it doesn't include "find a way to fund a whole athletic department on your own." I am willing to bet money that Jim Renick promised her he would increase the resources while he was finalizing his moving arrangements to DC. " Have you ever seen her job description for you to be able to comment on it? I'll wait...
Fundraising at A&T is isht. Has been forever. It will be until the administration decides they actually want people to produce and go out and get people that can produce and give them the means to produce.
Again, would Fobbs be losing if we'd never hired him? Would Dee have hired Fobbs if she was never hired? Is it their fault they were hired for jobs they clearly weren't prepared to do? No. Dee DIDN'T EVEN APPLY FOR THE JOB!!!! She took it because WE CHASED HER and LIED to her to boot.

...Oh, don't be misled by the number of my posts. I'm swift enough to see what's obvious. We have an A.D. and a Director of Development who are coasting along. I agree that Admin should take a closer look at what's going on and revamp their expectations. I also know that in other schools the A.D. DOES play a significant role in fund raising. It wasn't suggested that Dee do ALL the fundraising, hence, the mention of McAlpin... or are you tight with him too, buddy?

I've never met him. You really haven't been here long if you question where I stand on these folks. You need to go through the threads before you type another sentence because you're looking a little confused to the average person who's been here a while. Start here: bluedeathvalley.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&n=1&thread=937then here: bluedeathvalley.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&n=1&thread=371Then just read some of the threads on the board. I think you'll see where I stand. The bottom line is we hire people that clearly aren't going to do well and then get mad when they don't. That's just stupid isht. There's no point in even talking about replacing anybody until we have a concrete plan in place. We can do worse and with our history lately it's pretty obvious we will do worse. 1. Bill Hayes --> George Small --> Lee Fobbs 2. Alfonso Scandrett --> Charlie Davis --> Dee Todd

Well Ive been around A&T since 88 and I think that Shonuff is right on it. I think the whole point is "AINT NO MONEY BEING RAISED" . Thats the bottom line. There are two highly paid people within the athletic department who are primarily responsible for that deficiency who arent worth their weight in skittles... !!! (or m&m's for that matter).. who cares if the AD is pretty.. if you aint worth a damn.. pretty doesnt matter... !!! Let the church say AMEN !!!

DOOMS, I've read several of your posts. And, I frequently agree with your thoughts. However, before becoming defensive about folks questioning your comments, you should go back and read your Pollyanna sensitive-a$$ comment about the "A.D. is pretty." I repeat...RIDICULOUS, dood!

I type three paragraphs and all you see is four words? Come on...
...and antfan2003, you're the same guy that got on here and called us all out for not giving more. You have no standing right now. How you can even come near a computer and type that after a year of typing a canned "if you don't give be quiet" response is baffling.
You typed the following paragraph on 12/03/2005:
I need to see some sort of retraction from you before you get to calling out people, TRUE Aggie fan.

DOOMS, why are you so sensitive today? Can we just get real for a minute? You know damn well Todd and McAlpin aren't doing ish. Yes, fans need to give, that won't change. Fans aren't being paid six figures to support athletic programs. Why don't you take a time out and stop arguing (we ALL know this is your style by trade) with everyone who questions Todd? Roll with it, brutha.
