I go with Mo Smith, 6'2" 230lbs and was the fastest player on the team. Mo did not really get to run the ball much until his Sr year due to running behind Basnight and the other RB, I can't remember his name. Mo led us to a Championship in 99 and was starting for Atlanta when he blew out his knee. If not for his injury he would have made a name for himself in the NFL. Mo might have not been #1 but to me he is in the top 2 (Mo Hicks and Mo Smith).

AIN'T NO DEBATE - MAURICE HICKS IS THE BEST R B TO PLAY AT "T". I HAVE BEEN WATCHING A&T FOOTBALL SINCE THE 60'S.
1. Mo Hicks 2. Mel Phillips (49ers) NFL 10 years 3. J D. Smith (NFL) 4. BASHNIGHT 5. MO SMITH
6. JAMES WHITE 7. AL HOLLAND (MAJORS - BASEBALL RELIEF PITCHER FOR YEARS) 8. MAYHEW
9. WAYMON PITTS 10. ARTIS STANFIELD

ARTIS STANFIELD You got sum good stuff but I'm gonna throw 2 names out to you that stand out to me that should be in the top 10. Joe Taylor #22 from Miami, FL.....class of '61. Played 8 years as a DB for the Chicago Bears. RB/DB at NC A&T. Part of that "Florida Pony" tandem with Gene Cambridge. "Gail Sayers" type runner. He was a baaaddd man! Dick Westmoreland #30 from Charlotte....class of '62. Played 7 years as a DB for the Miami Dolphins/SD Chargers. RB/WR/DB at A&T. One of the charter REAL playas from Charlotte who opened up a pipeline of talent that is STILL open....... Charlotte to Greensboro. Elusive, sure-handed, and fast as "greased lighting".

ARTIS STANFIELD again, i don't see how anybody could possibly leave out george ragsdale. rags played in the nfl for the tampa bay bucs and the washington redskins, though he was converted to a wide receiver. i simply don't get it! the man was coaching here not to long ago with the last two coaching staffs and folk have forgotten about him already! dang! my boy "rags" don't get no respect. he won an meac championship under coach hornsby howell and played on one of the better and most balanced aggie offenses in history. apparently you folks must have been in a coma when rags played. not saying he was the best, but he "EASILY" makes the top 10...

I agree with you OSA, Rags gotta be in the top 7. I would probably put him in Al Holland's place. I blocked for both of them and I believe Rags was better although they were two different types of runners.

When I first saw Mo Hicks run the ball I said that he runs like "Rags". "Rags" was one of the best to ever play at A&T. And don't forget Barry Turner, Stony Polite, Larry King, Ron Scott and back in the day Sugar Hart and Willie Pearson. We were not called Running Back U for nothing!!

DAMN...I forgot about Willie Pearson, but I was in elementary school when he played and too young to evaluate him as a college player.
And, on second glance, Ragsdale should be in that Top 10. I might replace Al Holland with him.

Willie Pearson #18 Bow-legged from W-Salem. Now known as Brother Wille Muhammad. He was NO JOKE!!! Forgot about him.
We have historically been known as a team that runs da rock. There has been sooooo many bad brothers that touched down here it gives me chills all up and down my spine!
I'm wondering if anybody remembers or have heard of the two RB's I mentioned? Joe Taylor and Dickie Westmoreland.

I heard about Joe Taylor and I saw Westmoreland play when he was at "T". I think Westmoreland ended up playing for the 49ers at WR or DB or was that Mel Phillips, I can't remember. But anyway, we have had some very good RB's to come thru the "T".

We need to get a panel of "elder" Aggies who have been witnesses to Aggie Athletics for at least 40 years to chime in on this discussion. One person that I'm going to try to get up with later today is MISTER "B" (Tom Bynum). I have two others in mind.

I totally apologize to "Rags" because I really forgot to put him on my list. He should be at #5 because he was fast and tough for his size. Great person also.
Willie "P" Pearson should have been on my list. He crossed my mind several times when I was thinking of this list. He should be at #10.
Pitts & Stanfield honorable mention

You could also put Frank "Franko" Scott on the list of very good RB's. He was in the same backfield with Ron Scott. If Frank Scott had not been injured he would have been mention with the best.
