Anybody putting together a highlight video of Mayhew like the one that was done for Maurice Hicks ("The 'Mo Show")?? That was great stuff! Folks here in Tallahassee are still shaking in their boots at the mention of Maurice Hicks.

Maurice Hicks would get my vote; that was a bad man. I personally never was really impressed with Mayhew; I realized he got a lot of yards but then again he got the ball a lot.

The homie Mike Ferg should get some consideration. However, the fact he put up those yards during the Fobbs "Error" tarnishes his legacy.
With this being said, Mo Hicks is the best Aggie Running Back.

c'mon, ya'll! how could anybody exclude "rags" from the top 5? after all, he did make it in the nfl... by the way, rags had that mo hicks kinda speed. so much so, they switched him to wide receiver in the nfl...

I only included players I've seen. Unfortunately Rags was before my time at A&T. Wish we had some clips for some our legends. I would kill to see footage of Sparrow.

yeah, i think its hard for any of us to judge the greatest aggie running back of all time because none of us have seen all aggie running backs. actually, the same goes for basketball too. i saw "the bird" play, but i didn't see others like al attles or outlaw.
i saw rags though, but when rags played he had a better supporting cast than mayhew as far as the skilled positions go. he had elsworth turner as his qb who was a "natural" passer along with a game breaking reciever in dexter feaster. sorta like last year's offense when miles was here, except feaster was a good bit taller than miles...

What about Mr. Basnight and Milton Shaw. Basnight was the MVP of the SR Bowel and Played a few years in the PROS. I remember he had two back two Back kick off returns in a game. Mr. Shaw had a good came in our only win against App State. Aggies have had some good backs in our histroy, someone start a vote thread to get a true vote.........

Finding the greatest RB in A&T's history. Hard to say because A&T did not keep great records. You have J.D. Smith who played at a time when the level of HBCU play was Higher if not equal to the bigger white colleges. Now Rags played at a time that the MEAC and SWAC were almost feeders to the pros. So it would be hard to say who the greats RB is. Do we look at the level of play that the player faced back in the 50' to the mid 70 when HBCU's were stronger, are vs the more lower level talent and play that HBCU's have now?

I like Hicks, if he wuda been at "T" for 4 years. Since he was not and I'm counting career I gotta go w/Mayhew. As for carrying the ball a lot.......for his career he averaged 4.62 a carry. When you getting almost 5 yrds each carry for your career that speaks volumes. And if you run the ball 761 times in your career and get 3,521 yrds for an average of 4.62 yrds per clip that's running da rock!!!!!

While I was in school I had the opportunity to witness both Mike Ferguson, who is a fellow Durham native, and Mike Mayhew carry the rock. I would put Mayhew over Ferguson. But Ferguson had that sheer strength and size over Mayhew

I talked to two people who have seen ALL of these Aggies runningbacks...and both of them said that we haven't seen anything until we've seen J.D. SMITH. They said that Hicks was "good" and that Mayhew was "OK," but that J.D. Smith was awesome.
My pick of Hicks was based off of those that I have actually seen (from about age 15), which includes Ragsdale, Waymon Pitts, Charlie Sutton and on up.

This is for another thread, but I played against James Sparrow before I transferred to A&T. He was a big, physical guard who could shoot and really knew the game of basketball. However, the best Aggie guard that I have ever seen (as a youngster in what was then called "junior high school") was JUNE HARRIS from the early 1970s. He could do it all.

Mo Hicks was easily the greatest running back in school history.
Set the NCAA single game rushing record with 437 yards against Morgan State, which still stands today. Scored four touchdowns in just the first quarter against Howard that same year.
This whole debate is silly.
