They have closed down the street ("the strip")in front of the union to prepare for demolition. Do any of you know when the demolition will actually start, because I want to be there to at least get me 1 brick from the old union. I have a lot of memories from that place as do a lot of you all. Do you all think it would be a good idea for the school to preserve a lot of these bricks and sell them at homecoming or at anytime. Maybe charge $1 or $2 at the most. It may be worth it or not. Everybody won't be able to be there when they start to demolish the building to get a brick. I am sure a lot of Aggie would love to have a brick. Just a thought!! Actual demolition won't happen until mid-fall, possibly after homecoming when I talked to Mr. Baker earlier in the spring. It will all be determined on how long it takes to gut the building.

ProfBellamy, do you know if they will try to save the mural on the wall inside the union? The one of student life!! That is too nice of a mural to demolish. The parking lot use to be a more popular gathering spot than inside the actually union. The good ole days!!! This building will be missed almost as much as Scott Hall.

We have been told that the mural will be preserved for use in the interim union that will be housed in Moore Gym and Moore Gym parking lot. However, in the new union it's not slated for inclusion. It may be located somewhere else... I would encourage alumni to put pressure on Mr. Baker and Vice Chancellor Pierce to ensure that we have a process by which "original" bricks from the union are sold.

I'd purchase one from the Union.

:DOSA, I know you ordered a "round the world" soda with that bologna sandmitch!! oh hail yeah!! almost forgot all about the "round the world" sodas! you got a lil bit of everythang mixed in that soda! youngins don't know nothin' bout that!! man, those were the days!! i'll never forget. in recognition of our legacy, they should preserve both the "bologna/cheese whopper" and the "round the world" soda on the menu when the new union opens... when i was a freshman, man you were "big time" if you had a "bologna/cheese whopper" with a "round the world" soda! especially at night after the cafeteria had closed... i remember i use to call home for my parents to send me some spending money so i could get the hookup at the snack bar at night. man, you could walk into the union lobby and just smell the delicious aroma of bologna frying next door. wow! i'm having flashbacks now...

The basement of the union was the bid-whist capital of the world. Bid high or go home!! I can still see brothers slapping cards on their foreheads and talking s#*t. It has not even been torn down yet and I am already starting to miss it.

man, i can remember when after they mixed a round the world soda, the soda foam would be a combination of 4 or 5 different colors. almost looked like a rainbow. wasn't no diet nothing back in those days, so we were consuming a whole bunch of sugar when we drank those sodas. but of course back then, we were very young and could afford to consume so many calories without gaining a bunch of weight...
