A&T does own the Hayes Taylor property and an engineering building is planned for that site.

What convocation center?? I must have missed that one. go to a&t's main website and do a search on "capital improvement projects" and you'll find that there's a $32 million convocation center is on the books. last i checked it was projected to begin construction in 2015 but that may have changed by now. that same report has the new student union costing a "whopping" $100 million to build and the health center is estimated at $10 million. there's also a new college of engineering on the books which must be planned to be mega building! that bad boy is estimated to cost approximately $104 million...

The legislature turned that project down over a year ago. A&T and NCSU asked for $100 million to build new buildings, but were turned down. However, the College of Engineering advised the state that they will be making the request again. It will be tough with the new legislative body. They see their role as the body to cut educational funds, as well as other cuts, and to make and pass new social laws.

When will they start work on the convocation center? Will they build at the old post office site? The property north of Bluford street. Heading down towards Lindsay Street.

As bad as I'd like to see A&T build a new band facility, I still think the new student union is needed. This gives us a competitive edge in recruiting students and it gives a great place for the currents students to hang out.

I wish there were plans to preserve the steps from the union leading to fountain and glass entryway to the current Union. Those steps are as historic as the steps into Holland Bowl.

They should have preserved the present student union and used it for office space or for some other use. If that building were on UNC or UNCG's campus they would not tear it down. They would have found another use for it.
Just saying.

Unlike some of our sister UNC campuses, we don't (at least not yet) have the space to expand the main campus landholdings. Plus, i dont see where we would build the new Student Union, if we kept the current building in its location...

Is think after the union is built and once we develop the land on Laurel St, no more buildings with the exception of Carver Hall should and would be torn down.

i'm thinking that they probably wanted to keep the new student union on that side of campus because that's where the majority of our dorms are as well as the new student fitness center. however, it does seem to me that they could've kept the present student union foundation in place and just added onto that for the new student union.
however, i'm glad that we're building the new student union, but unfortunately it means tearing up our campus again which isn't a pretty look. when they tore down scott hall to make room for the new dorms, the yard looked a mess for years until the new dorms were built. but it was well worth the wait and it will be well worth the wait for the new student union too. i just hate that that side of campus will be looking like a "wreck" for 3 years...

They have closed down the street ("the strip")in front of the union to prepare for demolition. Do any of you know when the demolition will actually start, because I want to be there to at least get me 1 brick from the old union. I have a lot of memories from that place as do a lot of you all. Do you all think it would be a good idea for the school to preserve a lot of these bricks and sell them at homecoming or at anytime. Maybe charge $1 or $2 at the most. It may be worth it or not. Everybody won't be able to be there when they start to demolish the building to get a brick. I am sure a lot of Aggie would love to have a brick. Just a thought!!
