Changing black peoples mindset is one of the hardest things in the WORLD to do. I have ZERO faith that we could sell out every home game. Maybe in 5 years with the perfect schedule, championship caliber team, WSSU in week 1, etc.
And just cause the stadium is full doesn't make it a sell-out in my book. I'm talking a stadium full of paying fans(minus the students).
But enough of me badgering your enthusiasm. I like to stay postive, LOL. So let me put out my suggestions for a Every game sellout within 5 years.
1) Put WSSU back on the schedule and make it early in the year. Possibly the first game. You've already failed if the 1st game isn't a sellout. Since NCCU is now the official "rivalry week" game at the end of the year we cant use them for that. Like it or not, we would need WSSU to make a first ever sellout season.
2) Lets pour some fuel on the Elon rivalry. Lets schedule it, then spread some rumors, start a feud, talk trash. Do whatever we have to do to make this game interesting to the Elon fan base. We play them in 7-on-7 right? Put up highlights of that on youtube and let the trash talking begin! They dont have to drive but 20 minutes. I know there undergrad population is small, so we need to reel them ALL in and make sure we spread the word to their Triad and RTP alumni. Send 4 to 5 buses down to Elon and help scoop them up. Anyone with a paying ticket can get on it. Free Ride! Schedule a home and home and share the bus cost over 2 years. Schools this close should really be taking advantage of it.
3) More late games early in the year. They dont have to be 6pm, but damn, make some at 3pm or 4pm. Some people just cant make 1pm games every Saturday, especially if you aint in Greensboro. I coach Pop Warner. Imagine how many Aggies have kids that play sports on Saturday morning and cant make it. I know at least 10 aggies myself! I would bring my son and some of his buddies to an A&T game if we had more late games.
4) Preseason media hype. It doesn't exist. Take note from NCCU. If we just do HALF of what they put together I would be satisfied.
5) Comps and more comps. NOt sure how much this is done, but comps should go out to every little league, middle, and high school football team in Greensboro. Not for the big games, but you get my point.
6) Everyone knows The Machine is good. Stop pumping up The Machine in your football advertisements. You have those fans already. Stick to marketing the football game and team in football ads.
7) Stop disrespecting our competition. What I mean by this is when we play Morgan or Delaware the feel from the press, fans, etc is mostly "Oh its just Morgan, no need to make that drive", " I'll listen to that one on the radio". We need to treat EVERY opponent like that game is going to be the s#$t! We are ALL(fans, media, promoters, etc) guilty of this.
8) Black people are going to hate this one, LOL......Everything except for the curve of the "U" should be assigned seating! If selling out every game is the goal this is a MUST anyway. It will allow you to give comps based on seating area and also allow for a 3-4 tier ticket pricing structure. It will also give you a clear picture of who your "real" football fans are and who's just there to hang.
9)MOST importantly, Football team - Win Baby Win!....We must beat APP one year and beat them bad. If that happens they will come to Aggie stadium

monster, you and aggiebred have great ideas. but ya'll missed the most important incentive to attend aggie football games. and that's winning football games! i support any ideas that will increase attendance. but the easiest way to maximize aggie stadium attendance is to have a "consistent" championship caliber football team.
the number 1 reason why fans stop coming to our games is because of losing too many football games. folk like to feel good after going to a football game. when we lose most of our football games, folk don't feel good after the game. its emotional, and some of us get somewhat depressed. there's nothing worst than to have to listen to a bunch of noise from our opposing fans because they kicked our butt. especially at home.
personally, my whole mood changes when we win. its uplifting to win. when we win, it feels good to go out to eat after the game and folk see my aggie gold on and ask who won the game. i happily tell them we did! but its just the opposite when we lose.
yeah, i think all of these creative ideas are excellent ways to increase attendance. but without a winning team, none of them will work. everybody wants to be a part of a winner. not just fans, but alumni donors and corporate sponsors too!
so my philosophy is a little different. my number 1 motivation would be to raise our football program to a consistent championship level. that's 75% of the battle right there. give me a consistent championship caliber team and i'll get you 19k plus per game average at aggie stadium...

OleSchool... I can think of a few teams that consistently win but never get close to selling out multiple times during the season. BCU, NSU, HiU.... I agree fielding a winning team is vitale, but there has to be a bigger draw to pack the house.

We need a plan where if we are winning 11 games and attendance is booming then it wont fall off too bad just because we won 7 or 8 games the following year.

I keep thinking back to the Hayes days and the stadium wasn't always packed. It was still WELL under 18K during the Apps, Morgans, Hamptons, etc. Basically the non-rivals. In 93 we were 6-0, ranked # 5 or so in the nation and the game prior to homecoming was crickets. The three years prior we were 9-3, 9-3, and 9-2. If that and a #5 ranking cant get you near sellout the following year then geez.

Hell we need to find a way to hire you as a marketing consultant so you can get your ideas implemented. I knew you were a marketing genius when I read #2 about "spreading some rumors" to get the Elon rivalry going. I hope you share your ideas with the AD today. For a University our size (offering a degree in Marketing) we are awful at marketing our athletic programs. We are wasting valuable time if we don't get busy implementing some of your ideas now. Thanks and keep it up!

Off subject, I'm a 90s Aggies, so someone help me out. Wasn't the 80s another horrible decade for Aggie Football? We only had 3 winning seasons if what I'm looking at is correct. Where's all this 80s domination I keep hearing about? We had winning seasons 9 out of the 10 years in the 90s.

Yeah monster and everybody else share your ideas because we need positive ideas and change.
bred09....I feel ur pain--believe me I've felt it a looooooong time. But until there is a change in "marketing" and get those tirrrrrrred stale peeps out to pasture and get some real hustlers on the job things will remain the same (just like MBB).
school...outside of Hampton's circle people don't really support Hampton in the Tidewater area because Hampton is considered an "elite" private school by those on the outside looking in.

If that and a #5 ranking cant get you near sellout the following year then geez. we have "never" had near sellouts or a packed stadium for nearly every game and never will unless we have an app state type run. i never stated we'd nearly sellout every game. i stated that we could "average" 19k plus if we had a consistent championship caliber team. if our football team had done everything scsu did over the last 8 years, we'd average at or above 19k per game. we'd be the hottest sports ticket in greensboro. one of the problems with attendance that few of us talk about is our ticket prices. we have amongst the highest ticket prices in the meac. we shouldn't raise ticket prices again for at least another decade. i think it was dee todd's era when they raised our homecoming tickets so high and that's when we first started to have homecoming games that no longer "automatically" soldout every year. there was a time when no one could purchase a homecoming ticket on game day and it hasn't been that way since they raised the ticket prices...

That Elon game to me is where the money is. If I was Hilton I would schedule Elon and leak an "I hate Elon" quote from Broadway, ROFL.
On a serious note. The ADs need to play promoter on this and make it happen. We are 20 minutes apart. It dont make no sense not to play each other. Get a victory bell for the winner to keep. Paint it your school color when you win it. Do a dual press conference with the team captains prior to the game with Broadway and their coach holding a football together. Have a picture with Kindle and thier QB with thier fist to each other chin. "The Burner in Burlington"..."MEAC vs SOCON Challenge". Its a no brainer!
