FAMU is vastly overrated talent wise, as is Joe Taylor as a head coach, as is the Marching 100 as the best HBCU band in the country.
IMO, it is a program whose alumni and fans are still holding on and still living off of what is left from the 50s to the early 70's on what they did when Jake Gaither was their head coach in FAMU's heyday before integration much Like Grambling is doing now.
Don't be surprised when teams like us , Del State, and perhaps even Morgan who has no offense whatsoever pull an "upset" over the Rattlers at some point as the year goes along.
I watched some 15 games yesterday by web cast or by satellite and and only SCSU has the manpower to play against these D-1 or top FCS programs each week but they have one big disadvantage working against them and that is Buddy Pough.
Even NCCU had no business losing to Elon which should have been a blowout given the match ups and the fact that Central outplayed and dominated for 56 minutes but Eagles folded like a cheap umbrella in the wind and gave up three big plays and a special team breakdown during crunch time in the fourth quarter.
Which coach will turn out to be the best pickup from the SWAC between the two most fiercest MEAC arch rivals, NCCU and N.C. A&T, Henry Frazier versus Rod Broadway?
I believe we got the better of that exchange on both the short and long term by signing Broadway.

I don't disagree with you one bit on this. Down here, they are still holding on to Rudy Hubbard's accomplishments (winning the 1-AA national championship and defeating Miami in Tallahassee) from back in 1979 or so. You hear more about Jake and Rudy than you do about Billy Joe. But, anyway, your point is well-taken.

aggie One; SCSU played and outstanding game but we'll just see how the rest of the season go's before we hand them the MEAC crown. Indiana is just a FBS team with FCS talent. We'll see how they hold up when their MEAC season starts .

i picked the espn webcast up when it was 42-14....in the 2nd. sad. i was waitin on the "hunnert" and the cheerleaders to lend a hand or something! in other news, i see where savannah state lost to app 41-6. no surprise there. according to the box score, sav didn't score until the 10 minute mark in the 4th. coastal carolina, on the other hand, got drug by georgia 59-0.

Good point Blackfoot. This makes this coming Saturday's afternoon match up with Coastal Carolina a more than an even toss up.
Saabman, I'm not crowning SCSU the conference champs by any stretch because of the above mentioned problem they have: Buddy Pough. He has the ability to recruit like crazy but as a game coach, he isn't even in the top three in this league.
His philosophy is to out talent the opponent and that everything else should take care of itself. IU wasn't that good. One Saturday when hs talent isn't quite ready to play, someone in the MEAC is going to hand him his head who has a good coaching staff, a pretty decent QB and can play some defense.
SCSU certainly has the best individual talent than any other team in the MEAC but the most talented team on paper doesn't always win the whole ball of wax.

Maybe , but they have had some recent (1999) play off succsess in Boone
1999 is not before integration

I was surprised to see Grambling get drug by Alabama State...especially with all that talent that Broadway left Doug W. with. Makes you go hmmm! But I guess their fan base is satisfied with Doug W. as long as they win the Bayou Classic.

Don't forget numberonebrave, I mean we won it all in 1999, blowing that same revered FAMU team off the field in Greensboro to win the title and became the only 16th seed to knock off a one seed and even with Small as head coach we won it all again in 2003 and thumping FAMU again that same year in Tallahassee.
Rattlers have very selective memories when the facts don't necessarilly support their hopes or their own version of history.

...Rattlers have very selective memories when the facts don't necessarilly support their hopes or their own version of history. True! Rattlers here still deny what happened in 1968 as fact. You know what they say about, " The Fragile Rattler Ego?" (LOL!!)

I've already told several people we will kick FAMU to sleep this year. We took them to overtime with that hot mess (coaching staff) we had last year.
