I'm beginning to be of the thought that these guys are all on some sort of work release program or have been or will be at some point. Let's make sure this is a one time deal and never play this "program" again.
From WSET.com, the Channel 13, the ABC Affiliate in Lynchburg, VA website:
Lynchburg, VA - The fallout from a weekend assault in Lynchburg has led to the dismissal of two college football players. The players from Virginia University of Lynchburg were arrested Sunday morning and charged in the mob attack of a male victim. Police say someone later fired several bullets into the players' apartment, in what appears to be a retaliation attack. The school has acted quickly: The two players involved had their scholarships revoked and were sent home. For current players on the team, they are speaking out today, asking for forgiveness from the community. These are young men who had nothing to do with this weekend's incident but are concerned about how they will be perceived. Many of the players have come to Lynchburg after various types of problems in their past. They say this is not the way they wanted to begin their second chance. "For people to look at us, the way that I probably think that they are right now, we're going to change that and I have no doubt that we will," said Andrew Tree, from Pasadena, Calif. "We want to show everybody that we are not what they think we are. There was a couple of bad apples and that's not going to spoil us. So we're going to go back out here and show the community that we are good guys and we're going to work hard," said DeAngelo Lucas, from Washington D.C. Players say they are making it a point to look out for each other to make sure no one else makes a bad decision. VUL has also instituted a mandatory curfew, and the school president has been out speaking to members of the community. They say the priority is keeping this program clean and avoiding any future incidents.

Dontra Matthews is a huge loss for them. A 6'3" safety that runs a 4.4? He couldn't make the grade at Auburn (or anywhere else) so I guess that's how they got him.
My question is where'd they get scholarships in the first place? I thought everybody there was on financial aid.
Deangelo Lucas is huge (like 6'7" 370 lbs huge). Looks like VUL is his third or fourth school. He signed with Howard, went to some juco, was supposed to go to Winston, now at VUL.

They are essentially a semi-pro team talent wise. Now how they play as a real college football team is another question.

VUL so-called AD must have been reading my thread and the posts in it and decided "I will show these guys". bluedeathvalley.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=7341This school will be in financial trouble in 2 years if it takes that long and a big lost in standing with the local community. I am not psychic, we have seen this play out before with small HBCUs who thinks football is the way to get their school big recognization but they never think out the financial cost of having a football program and the emotional cost of bringing in renegade players.

peeps who live in glass houses ought not throw any stones. i just don't understand how we can judge vul's program based on two misfits that have since been kicked off the team. it ain't like we don't have or didn't have misfits of our own. yes, a lot of us crack jokes about vul which is to be expected. but to abandon our own team just because we don't like who they're playing sends the wrong message to our players and coaches. i thought we go to aggie games to support our team? i didn't know we aren't suppose to go to aggie games if we don't like who we're playing. especially considering at this time in our history, our program needs every ounce of support it can muster. vul players are justified to be concerned about their image because the rest of them are being judged by the acts of two misfits, and we're guilty of it. i'm not saying their program is squeaky clean, but heck, what program is? just like i think its unfair for our team to be judged by the acts of a few of our misfits, i don't think its fair to label vul's entire program because of two thugs formerly on theirs. me personally, i don't believe we'll ever see vul on our schedule again even if they're successful at reestablishing their program. as far as i'm concerned, playing vul is a one and done deal. there's no reason to blow this one game out of proportion. i'm gonna be at our first game even if it was against the local ymca. i understand the circumstances that warranted us playing this team and even if i didn't, a&t football desperately needs our support, so that's exactly what i'm gonna give them. for those who refuse to attend this game because of who we're playing, i absolutely respect your right to do so 100%. but true aggie supporters will be in that stadium come sept. 3rd regardless of who we're playing. and if ya really want to know who the true aggie supporters are, you'll see us at aggie stadium supporting our football team on 9/3. fortunately, we have a great fan base and i'm extremely proud to be one of them. just like during the 27 game losing streak, i'm proud that we true aggies won't let our football team show up on sept. 3rd to a near empty stadium, no matter who we play. not showing up for that game doesn't hurt vul, it actually helps them. so who's being punished by not showing up for the vul game? how bout giving that some thought...

I am not judging VUL on two knuckleheads. I am saying a financially strapped private HBCU school shouldn't waste money on starting up a football program. What is worse this school is scheduling games against much better organized football programs right out of the gate. It is a loss all around for this institution that seems to be poorly lead.

Wait now Jazz...they will win the game on Oct. 1st, 2011. That's one they can bank on. Unless yall know something I don't. But seriously though, let them trying and start their program, they have a right to. I would rather start my program with legit student/athletes though. I'm not mad at them. But, I wouldn't want my son having to play against 25 year old men at the age of 18. But then again, if you can play, you can play...no matter what the age. So...I really have no opinion. I guess I'm babbling...huh?

I agree with oleschool.
We have one starting cornerback who was accused of *insert pretty bad crime here* this spring and another starting cornerback who was suspended because of his involvement in a offseason beatdown of a UNCG student.
We really don't have much room to talk.

Yes.....I said it I AM NOT GOING TO THE SCRIMMAGE against a club football team. I have choices and I chose to, my wifey choses to, the kids chose to skip the scrimmage (er, ugh game) (da dog didn't have a choice we are MAKING him go w/us) for a much deserved vacation out of state. So I chose to go out of state w/my fam instead of watching a scrimmage. One thing about it, there are 5 Aggie seasion ticket holders in my fam and I contribute consistently to A&T but I feel VERY comfortable challenging ANYONE to beat my fam's attendance record for the last decade. All this philosophical commentary about what constitutes a "true aggie supporter" is way out of context. I always reserve the right to attend or not attend a A&T football game for WHATEVER reason I chose but MY loyalty is UNQUESTIONABLE. I think we sometimes get caught up in loving something so much that we think we are suppose to co-sign any and everything. Come on man!!!!!!!
