I have a feeling HBCUs are being shuned away by the PWC in NC.

Do you think we (hbcus) have tried to schedule any games with the pwc in-state schools? I know Dee has stated she doesn't want to play a I-A anywhere in-state and she dumped Elon for Charleston Southern (who she dumped for PV). Is it them or is it us?
In other news App State's playing Michigan to start the season. I wonder what they'll clear for that @ss whuppin'.
There's so many football-playing schools in-state now I'm sure if hbcus were interested pwcs would play us. I often hear the "they're scared to play us" reasoning but I never bought into it.

I know it's not football but I was reading about Davidson's basketball schedule this morning and they have Carolina, Duke and UCLA this year and these aren't games they scheduled years ago, big teams want to play small teams with nothing to lose and GLIMMER of hope in the game.

You answered your own question. Its Todd. Isn't she the one that didn't want to repeat the Wake Forest fiasco? i cant see why at least one of the 4 ACC schools wouldn't want to play us.
As far as basketball goes, it's the same. We played Duke, UNC and Wake all in the same year a few years back. She basically came in and said that we would never do that again either. Said that it was bad for recruting to get beat by in state schools like that. ...................HUH??.......................It's worse getting beat by Winston like last year and NCCU before that. MUCH WORSE!! Who you dont want to schedule right now is Elon, Catawba, or Gardner-Webb. Bring on Duke, UNC, NC State, and Wake. At least we getting money when we lose.
I tend to disagree with that philosophy, because people would love to play against the "Big 4" and it doesn't make you look bad to get your a$$ kicked by them.

I think it's more to it than Ms. Todd. She's only been there a few years. What would be the reasoning pre-Dee Tobb?

I think coastal is playing Penn State In 2008...
and i personally think that if A&T and other black college stated to play Big time ACC or any other D-1A school then it will bring in more respect toward the coaches and the player...
NFL Recruiters wouldn't look down or skip over black college stands outs because they so called didn't go up against the best player in the nations or didn't have the best coach...
I would love to see how i matched up against a big time ACC or PAC-10 all-American Wide out and so wouldn't recruiters... Over all even if we lost 21-0 it would still be a great showcase of our true skill as a coaching staff a team and individual players

I understood Ms. Todd's reasoning behind not wanting to play the in-state big boys. She figured it would hurt recruiting to see us getting taken to the woodshed by an in-state major.
I just don't agree with her reasoning. In-state, out-of-state, there's not much difference. It ain't like negroes ain't got internet and cable and won't see the score. I'd rather play them all now while we're rebuilding and do something constructive and set a foundation with the money earned.
Ironically I assume one of the things that made Todd so attractive to Renick (besides the fact she's good-looking) was the thought that she could get us games with ACC schools.
Gator, pre-Dee Todd we did play in-state pwc schools, albeit usually only one per year. We had a four or five (or six) year game with Elon. Before that I think we had a few year hiatus while Hayes rebuilt the team on the backs of d-II hbcus. Prior to that rebuilding we had App State, Western Carolina, East Tennessee State (not in-state but not far from the border) on the schedule in the early to mid-90s.
But as you know athletic directors want to make money and they feel the best way to do so is to put a team in the stadium with a good band and a traveling fan base. I can't really name a pwc that fits that bill.

I think it's more to it than Ms. Todd. She's only been there a few years. What would be the reasoning pre-Dee Tobb? Those were her words abou tnot wanting to take the in-state whipping and it would be bad for recruiting. Prior to her it was never actually said. Like I stated earlier, we did play them in basketball.

Again, why did we not play them in football? Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I was there when we played them in basketball. Why would the State's and Carolina play a GW over A&T in 09?
Kill it! I just remembered, we did play Wake a few years back.

You beat me to it. But besides that I don't know. Perhaps it's the racial issue, maybe it's because an hbcu generally provides the lowest level of division I competition, maybe we didn't know how to approach a d-I, maybe it's a combination. State and Carolina would play a GW over A&T in '09 because

Coach Hayes wanted to set up football games with Wake Forest and Duke in past and either wanted to play DEAR A&T!

Trust me, it wasn't because they were scared of losing. They might didn't want us on their campus en masse. When our best teams were getting shellacked by most I-AA pwcs I'm sure the I-A pwcs weren't worried.
I remember back in the day thinking we'd pound Duke and Wake, and then crying in my beer when we played the Citadel and App State.
Now it's a trend to get as many I-As on your schedule as you can. SC State has two this year. I would think we could get a few especially since we got paid highway robbery to get booty-wrangled by Wake. We've got to be undercutting Gardner-Webb.
