SCSU has a winning program. People are going to come and support a winner. I don't see anything but this hurting the support for the team. We (fans) have been there for these past 8 years and there is another tax passed on to the consumer. This is a travesty I have several nieces and nephews who attend S.C. State, and i can tell you, people were not coming inside the stadium even though they have been winning for several years now. The way to support your team is to be inside , cheering ,win, lose, or draw. I just can't see how someone being in the tailgate area is showing support for the team. It is not our responsibility to provide a place for the community at large to hang out , drink , and listen to Frankie Beverly. You are 100% correct. Personally, I don't understand the rational behind worrying about inconveniencing fans who only support the program by partying for free in your parking lot.

BAD a$$ DECISION. WITH THE SORRY a$$ RECORD THAT WE HAVE IN FOOTBALL THEY SHOULD BE GLAD FANS ARE IN THE AREA. THE ADMINISTRATION IS SLOWLY BUT SHOWLY DESTROYING AGGIE PRIDE AND FELLOWSHIP. ALL OF THE GALA AND FANFARE THAT WE SHOWED IN THE PAST AT HOMECOMING WAS DESTROYED (NO VENDORS) ON THE STREETS. NOW THIS. WE ARE A HBCU INSTITUTION AND PARTYING, TAILGAITING, VENDORS AND THE LIKE ARE OUR HERITAGE. YOU ARE ABOUT TO DESTROY THIS IN ORDER TO MAKE ONE MORE DOLLAR.

Forgive me if this has already been proposed my last post was on page one and i skimmed the last four...
Why not have game zone specific tickets at a reduced price that offer you access to all the "entertainment" (for lack of a better word) around The Stadium but simply don't grant you access to the inside...Yes, it would cost more to print said tickets that have in bold ***GAME/FAN ZONE ACCESS ONLY*** printed across the top for say 5 bucks or so. A&T still gets revenue from the folks not watching the game and people don't have to pay full price if they are not trying to get inside
*Shrugs*

Creating another revenue stream is never stupid unless it decreases your total revenue. That's very unlikely overall. Thats exactly it. And I cant believe people are on here defending people who NEVER contribute to the game except for hanging out at a tailgate.

I'm not defending people who don't pay. I'm realizing that in order to make money you charge what the market will bear. I just don't think the market will bear this.
My family is from Orangeburg. I know quite a bit about that place and how things are done. They live to tailgate, and that's primarily because they started stinking for so many years in a row people decided to forego the game and just hang out in the tailgate. Kind of like we're starting to do.
They got good, but people continued to tailgate because it was much more fun and much more free. When they made the decision to charge, they had a product people would be willing to pay for outside and inside the stadium. We also weren't in this level of a financial mess in our nation.
We'll probably have a record take for homecoming, and thereafter a record dearth of attendance that will carry over year after year.
I think what most of us are saying is it's a good idea, but the timing is very, very bad. I know I am. I'm also worried that we won't recover from this, just as we haven't recovered from hiring Fobbs, haven't recovered from overcharging one year for homecoming, haven't recovere from admitting marginal and poor students, haven't recovered from promoting Hunter, etc...

I feel ya, but I just dont see this as such a "crucial" decision. And we all have our experiences, but mine is that people who came to just tailgate will come and pay anyway. I know my boys that never went in the game still paid to tailgate when we had to do it at NC State that year. The program and attendance has been on a decline for several years, so this aint going to be what kills it. Losing is killing it waaay more than any Game Day Zone ever will. Maybe its to early to start with new coach, new press box, APR issues, etc.....But its the right move financially and EVENTUALLY attendance wise.

I think ya'll are making way to much of this change. The timing doesn't matter, because it doesn't impact the core, it doesn't impact the students and it doesn't impact my friend that said, "well I guess I'll have to buy a ticket now." Dude hasn't been inside the Stadium but once in 5 years. That's because I buy the tailgate pass with my package. But it does impact the 15 or so moochers that frequent his spot.
In fact, this is the best time to try it, because if it works now it will be a greater successful when the turnaround comes. Trying it after the turn has a greater risk.
The tipping point of the $50 homecoming ticket wasn't the price but the product. The product doesn't impact this change because the affected group doesn't support the product. Are ya’ll thinking tailgate spots are gonna go unsold, I think not. Try to get one after May 30th.

I definitely see y'alls point. I'm just wondering how many will say "enough is enough" and how will that effect us in the future.
I guess we'll find out...

I guess I could give my two cents...me personally don't see a thing wrong with trying to create more revenue at a time when revenues are down everywhere. Then two, me personal cannot imagine coming to Greensboro to stand outside of the stadium next to a grill...I don't care how bad the product is. That just doesn't make sense in my world. In the end, I think you will see the moochers go away and you will have a true fan base. Let's be real, our fan base isn't diehard with the exception of the couple of thousand supporters that's going to show up win, lose or draw. Our fans as our team doesn't even understand our rivals: WSSU, NCCU & SCSU. When I watch the game atmosphere against these teams, their fans and team understand that this is a rival game. On the other hand, our fans and team approach it like another game....thus you'll have our fans outside in the parking lot tailgating while the game is being played. So in a nutshell, we should be doing everything we can to raise our profits. Who cares if a person can't tailgate? I don't!

Yea you right Decks its all about that bottom line. Forget the fellowship, low income folks ,rich heritage and the Pride that we bring to the institution. Trues,we just signed a coach to the highest contract in BCF in a slow economy. We gotta try to come up with additional revenue and/or lower operating costs to help cover this. It's worth a try. Besides winning will take care of everything.
