That's what I would do instead of hiring graduate assistants and dudes from community colleges.

I don't know what kind of financial liabilities Fobbs has but he's making 60 large more than any coach in school history and he's gotten by far the worst results in school history. I literally could've done a better coaching job because I'll go hungry and let my underlings live large before I'ma be embarassed like that. There are schools with far less money than us that somehow convince more experienced coaches to come aboard. All we have are excuses. It's Fobbs' job to get it done and I'd hate for him to figure out in hindsight that it would've been easier to let go of half his salary and drum up some additional monitary support to get some experienced assistants than it was to try to teach a crew of kids how to coach when he still trying to learn himself. I agree 100%! If you're looking for proof then NCCU is a fine example. A large part of the reason their program improved was due to the experienced staff Broadway was able to assemble.

Article on a related issue Coach Carter is building his program the right way. I am extremely impressed with his tenure thus for.
Rattlers learn from NFL Assistants enter pro academy to pick up tricks of the trade
By Heath A. Smith DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER
Florida A&M running-backs coach and recruiting coordinator Renato Diaz recently participated in the NCAA Expert Football Coaching Academy down in Miami.
Diaz was one of 26 coaches selected for the academy and is one of three FAMU assistant football coaches pursuing career development opportunities this summer.
"I think it is the responsibility of a head coach to allow his assistants to get professional development," said FAMU head football coach Rubin Carter. "I wanted to make sure that they were provided with adequate time for that."
The academy, targeted for minority coaches, is a preparatory class for becoming a head coach with participants selected by a committee from the NCAA.
The three-day academy assists coaches with career advancement, networking and exposure opportunities as well as raise awareness regarding the pool of qualified minority coaching candidates.
Defensive-ends coach Tim Orr was selected to attend another session of the academy June 29 through July 2.
Wide-receivers coach Gary Harrell has been selected to participate in the National Football League's Minority Coaching Fellowship, which provides coaches with opportunities to work with an NFL team during training camp.
Harrell has been assigned to the Houston Texans' coaching staff and will be at the team's training camp from July 25 to Aug. 2.
"That is a busy time for us as a staff, but I thought it was a great opportunity for him to get work as a coach at the professional level," Carter said. "It just takes proper planning to work around it."
Harrell will get the opportunity to perform the duties of a full-time NFL assistant coach during his fellowship.
Among Harrell's responsibilities will be planning and directing workouts, formulating scrimmage and preseason-game strategies, breaking down videotape and evaluating players.
"As an assistant coach, I was allowed the opportunity to take part in professional development," Carter said. "It allowed me to develop valuable skills that I use now."
More than 1,000 coaches have participated in the program since it began in 1987.

Some insight on Walthow's conditioning philosophies? www.goblueraiders.com/content.cfm/id/393GoBlueRaiders.com%20·%20Page%202%20of%202Blue Raiders Watch Blue Sunrise The Blue Raider basketball team has taken on a newapproach for the upcoming season. The team is involved in Blue Sunrise workouts designed towhip the team into shape both physically and mentally withthe opening of preseason camp only a couple of weeksaway. The Blue Sunrise workouts are voluntary, but every teammember has chosen to participate in the grueling program. Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Cedric Walthawis conducting the team's 6 AM workouts three days a week, and, according to Walthaw, it didn't take long to beginrealizing the goals behind the idea.
"The whole idea is to find out who the leaders are," saidWalthaw. "We wanted to know who would push throughwhen they were tired and who was willing to step up. We wanted to know which playershad the discipline that we were looking for. We want to develop mental toughness in theseplayers and find out which guys were the ones we could count on when it came down tocrunch time."
Head Coach Randy Wiel agrees with Walthaw's assessment. He said, "These workouts have been high intensity and we know that we'll be able to findout who our leaders are. Blue Sunrise should prepare us for the tough competition that liesahead of us." Aside from the individual benefits of the program, the team concept is the biggest winner ofall. Walthaw said that Blue Sunrise was designed to help build team chemistry bypresenting the players with a difficult challenge to show that, together, they couldovercome obstacles. The idea for the workouts initially came from the Blue Raider football team, whichundertakes Blue Dawn each spring. The physical activities are not the same but thepurpose behind them is. Walthaw said, "The workouts really worked well for football. It gave them discipline andhelped them know how to work hard and what was expected of them." Even though the team has only been through two workouts so far, Walthaw indicated thatthe team's attitude toward Blue Sunrise was extremely positive so far. "We have a couple of guys that have never been through anything quite like this, so theyquestioned why we were doing this, but now that they can see that the drills werebasketball related then the questions have kind of gone away." Wiel added, "The workouts have been very positive so far. The team is really responding towhat we're trying to do. The workouts are designed to get tougher as the program goesalong, so the team's intensity level should get higher as we approach the beginning of fallpractice." Newcomers William Pippen (whiteshirt) and Garrick White are takingpart in Blue Sunrise three days aweek. (MT) GoBlueRaiders.com · Page 1 of 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 2 The team goes through seven stations of physical workouts each morning, spending fiveminutes at each. The team sprints from station to station, getting only a minute to recoverbetween drills. The regimen also includes time for stretching and cool down. Walthaw said, "The team has kind of surprised me in how well they are taking toeverything. We start at 6 AM and I require them to be there at 5:45. It's a hard thing to beable to get up that early when you're not used to it. We've only had one guy miss and he'sbeen disciplined for it, so we don't expect too many more problems." The workouts are also designed to let each player know where they stand in the workouts.Blue headbands are given to the players that have completed their workouts in anexcellent fashion. White is the color assigned to those with average workouts, and blackheadbands are given to those players who exhibited a poor effort. "It's a motivational tool for us," Walthaw commented. "We hope that those guys that aren'twearing the blue each morning are working hard to get there. We want them all to wear ablue headband, but its important for each player to know where he stands." According to Walthaw, one of the program's goals has already been accomplished. "Everybody is coming in and busting their butt to try and get better. We can't ask for morethan that." The first official day for basketball practice is Saturday, Oct. 13. The Blue Raiders will begintheir team workouts at that time in preparation for their opening game on Nov. 17 at homeagainst Bryan College.
