No problem with the S&C coach. Cedric Walthaw FB/LB Born: 1973 Hometown: - 6' 1", 265 College: Southern Mississippi played some arena football, has been at MTSU for a number of years as asst S&C Is Fobbs renaming the school to Mississippi A&T A&T's bread and butter or main course of talent will be frome NC with sides or desserts from out-of-state unless A&T has increase the football budget by 50 percent. I remember Hayes winning with about 10 to 12 out of state scholarships.

When Fobbs was hired I said he'd be in trouble if (among other things) he had to put a bunch of assistants with little experience to his staff. The same thing happened to James Bell at Jackson state and we all saw what happened to them.
At some point the people in charge at that athletic department HAVE to start paying attention to what has gone on at other schools or the will be working for other schools. Fobbs is in no position to be hiring graduate assistants, I don't care how promising they might look. He has to hire guys even more experienced than he is or he will be James Bell's running back coach at Taylor University.
I hope they get it right this year because people's patience will run very thin.

Recruting in-state is the key at A&T because of our budget...... If he does not adjust to it he WILL be 3 and out!!!!!!!!

dj98, That's not true. One has nothing to do with the other. We discussed it on a thread last year. Because the scholarships are from non-state funds, there is no cost differential.

All athletes count as in-state (as far as tuition) once they get here (I think) so why not bring out a whole crew from Cali, Texas or Louisiana. Chances are your in-state players all got interest from MEAC schools so by the time they hit the field the opposing coaches know the skinny on that player and what he can and can't do. With bringing in complete unknowns I think we shake the game up a little bit as far as people being familiar with our personnel. Competitive advantage A&T.
I think we sometimes OVER value in-state players, if we can get players from across the country without going broke or goin' BLUE CHIPS and buying somebody a tractor then I have no beefs with it, I mean damn our other teams aren't NC heavy as they used to be and no one has a problem.
I honestly don't expect a lot this year but I like to think that we've withstood the punches very well, cut loose ends, replaced people as well as we could with no money and right now we might actually win a game this year.

Maxell. please take us back to exactly what are rules for A&T not to 'pony up' for out-of-state fees for out-of-state athletes.
I don't believe A&T has any sports program with all of its scholarships are endowed.

I don't see why Fobbs didn't just hire Doug Brown to coach receivers if that is all the credentials he required.

AggieMike, NC has NO dominate football programs. So what schools without NC players are you referring to? You always want to keep your in-state players. They are easier(less money) to recruit for one.

I'm going to assume it's because he plans to recruit Mississippi hard. I already see that money we're donating is going to plane tickets and motel sixes.

I don't believe A&T has any sports program with all of its scholarships are endowed. The only real private funds going into the Athletic Department are from the Aggie Club and other direct donations. That’s enough for about 5-7 in-state scholarships a year for the entire Athletic Department. Student fees are considered public funds and can't be use to fund in-state scholarships for out-of-state athletics.

I think S.C. State's schollys all count as in-state. I've heard Appalachian's do too. I think Coach Small mentioned that before he was unceremoniously dumped for being unable to compete with a bunch of schools without those restrictions.
How was Coach Small able to field a full staff of seasoned assistants and Coach Fobbs has no one that I would hire for my staff were I a coach?
