More questions to think about and work out
What is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on why Coach Lee only had 44.5 scholarships this football season. Most readers will automatically say it was due to NCAA penalty in reduction of scholarships. I questioned the reason. Remember the NCAA penalty came down 3 or 4 months after the national signing day.
Why did A&T only have 44.5 scholarships going into this football season is anyone’s guess. The 44.5 schollys are 18.5 scholarships under the FCS max of 63. A&T did back load the reduction in scholarships from the NCAA penalty to this school year since they were not going to fund them anyway. Those six scholarships would have been applied to the next school year of 2011-2012 if A&T was anywhere near the maximum number.
A big question is when will A&T fund anywhere close to the maximum scholarships for football?
This is not the only big question, where is all the new money coming from to the fund following:
1. New scholarships above the 44.5 that would bring the number close to 63. 2. New and hopefully experienced head football coach. 3. New and more experienced football staff. 4. New and more experienced athletic director 5. New and more experienced personnel for the athletic department. 6. $4 million Stadium Press Box/Luxury Suites. 7. Maintenance for the rest of Aggie Stadium to match the new press box/luxury suites.

Well, 1. New scholarships above the 44.5 that would bring the number close to 63. Thats in the budget. We normally have about 55-58 full rides on the norm. 2. New and hopefully experienced head football coach.Hopefully the next guy will get exactly or less than what Lee made 3. New and more experienced football staff. See #2 4. New and more experienced athletic director See #2 5. New and more experienced personnel for the athletic department. See #2, problem wasn't money, but the people hired 6. $4 million Stadium Press Box/Luxury Suites. State funds is paying alot 7. Maintenance for the rest of Aggie Stadium to match the new press box/luxury suites. We do this anyway. Amazing what paint can do

Best believe 44.5 is because of APR reductions. And the adminstration new about long before everyone (including coaches) knew. And it may be lower next year. We have the money to fund 57 or 58 scholarships we had the year before, but because of the APR penalties that Lee walked into the program was penalized. We really need all the facts behind everything thats going on. Because once we do we can began to understand the direction of the football program and the vision of Cahncellor Martin.

How was Wheeler able to calculate 49 scholarships as he reported in a meeting? How did he get the equivalent of 49 out of the 44.5? How was he counting?

QUIT MAKING DECISIONS LIKE ITS BCS... QUIT FIRING COACHES & ADS LIKE ITS BCS FOOTBALL... ITS NOT... ITS 1-AA...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE'RE NOT OHIO ST... WE'RE JUST A&T... i think the reason our admins have fired several football coaches is because hayes "spoiled" us. he made it look easy. he made it appear that we had everything in place to allow any decent coach to come in and win at a&t, and that's simply not the case. in my opinion, hayes should've never been fired in the first place. ever since then i've been searching for the reasons he was fired and i've yet to read or hear a "valid" explanation that warranted firing hayes. in hindsight, how many folk felt small's firing was premature? and i don't think anybody would argue the justification behind firing fobbs. coach lee's firing is debatable. but aside from hayes and lee, what other firings weren't justified? our admins have never "seriously" given a darn about aggie athletics. otherwise we'd have the support system in place that would allow our athletics to succeed. what i do agree with dooms about is that we do not have an adequate infrastructure in place to advance aggie athletics to excellence. i mean, its so obvious that i don't even have to list any examples. so the true measurement of whether dr. martin is serious about athletics or not will be the revamping of the athletic department and a much more significant "commitment" in athletics from our administration. something's seriously wrong when we allow kids to participate in college athletics without taking a prerequisite physical. even in high school, before we could participate in "any" sport, we had to have a mandatory physical examination on file. that's one of the most "basic" requirements of any athletic department and its "easy" and inexpensive to enforce. to me, our failure to do so exemplifies how "laxed" our administration has been regarding a true commitment to athletics...

All of them probably weren't full schollys so probably some of 44 were split amongst a few other kids and that's how that 49 number came about most likely. I am not really sure.

You are right because, a couple of kids are on half baseball/football scholarships

I'll just say this...alot of us didn't like what was happening in athletics 2-3 months ago. So, now that change is being implemented, I say we just wait and see the changes. This is what we asked for...we can't ask for change then, question the way it's been brought about.

You get what you pay. If you are trying to make a serious change you need people who have done it and none work for peanuts but some are reasonable. 5. The athletic department has been severely understaff for years. 6. Press Box will be paid for by private money. See the pressbox article in the Aggie football special sent to our homes. 7. You need to take a closer look at Aggie Stadium. One year, the students did a lot of the painting before the football season started.

I am not complaining, I am stating there is a whole lot to plan, hire, implement and acquisition/purchase. So be prepared to not see much movement in 4 years as far as MEAC titles.

One year, the students did a lot of the painting before the football season started. 1 - It still manages to always stay around 55-58 though, so why worry. 5 - I'll give you #5. We do need MORE people. 2,3,4 - The rest is not an issue as far as pay goes. We've paid our head football coach good money the last few times and look what we got. Our AD might be overworked, but he aint under paid. Again, we could use MORE people. 7 - You answered your own question. It wont be no more upgrades. Just more paint. The only thing you can do to Aggie Stadium to upgrade it without knocking the whole damn thing down is the press box and maybe try and make it look not-so "bleacher" like. You can accomplish that by building walls to cover up the backside/under the stands. I'm saying we might need more people in certain spots, but the pay per person aint bad right now. It's on parr.

What is a good salary for assistants at the subdivision level and hbcus? it is a HUGE difference from school to school, not just HBCUs and other FCS teams. Its such a huge difference from school to school you cant even really put a range on it, but I tried anyway. assistant head coach: $60-90K offensive coordinator: $40-90 defensive coordinator/LBs: $40-90 special teams(normally a dual role like SP/RBs): $35-75 recruiting coordinator,(dual role): $30-70K Just to give you an idea of how huge. here is Youngstown's. Tom Sims, assistant head coach/DL: $95,025. Shane Montgomery, offensive coordinator/QBs: $95,025. Rick Kravitz, defensive coordinator/LBs: $97,110. Louie Matsakis, special teams/RBs: $74,175. Phil Longo, recruiting coordinator, WRs: $74,175. Frank Buffano, DBs: $53,325. Ron Stoops Jr., assistant secondary coach/director of high school relations: $35,951. Carmen Bricillo, OL: $42,900. Andre Coleman, TE: $26,220. Rollen Smith, Assistant DL: $26,220. Dan Kopp, director of football operations: $48,113. Assistant coaches will receive a $500 bonus for each YSU playoff game. To make it easier a better question would be what is the coaching salary budget for the entire team period?
