The four MEAC schools that I know have a University Day are NCA&T, SC State, FAMU and Norfolk State. I don't know how extensive A&T's is or how far out it extends. They do a great job, though. NCCU's Open House was last week. Schools used to give tickets away. Now they charge a reduced rate. A&T $10 NCCU $6. Livingstone is this weekend ... tickets are free. I oversaw the one at FAMU for awhile (on the Athletics end only), and we reached out to every elementary school, middle school and high school within a 40-mile radius. However, we did send special invitations to schools as far away as Miami (500 miles away) and Atlanta (250 miles away). Campus tours and recruitment stations were available for participating high school students only. We charged $5 per student...but they had to be purchased directly by the school (with a check from the district's school board).

For me, it would be hard to tell. My guess would be about 800 or so (including parents). I think that they could do much better if they were allowed to pre-sell them through the schools or through a preregistration process.

That decision-making group won't even get together again before Thanksgiving, so it's probably a "done deal." It was all about money.

One bit of good news (kinda, anyway )... Someone has picked up on the idea of having a Battle of the Bands in Corbett before the SCSU game. I wonder if Aggie Athletics will get any of the gate receipts, though. (I tried to attach that flyer here...no luck.)

To my knowledge, The Band Brawl between us & SC State was on the slate since last years battle in Orangeburg...I think this is going to become a yearly event/ fundraising event for the Machine like Band Brawl with Norfolk has become...
I still believe that a battle between WSSU or Central, although probably not a personal favorite for members of the machine, would be a sellout event, simply based on the rivalry and close proximity of both schools...

I totally agree with one against central or wssu. It does not have to be a personal favorite but it would bring in the most money for the program so they should do it. Now with this brawl with SCSU here I hope it is marketed well, as a former band member we need the money so a sellout needs to happen. TO keep this about athletics should they give some gate money to athletics aggierattler?

The close proximity of these schools would mean the security would have to be extra tight! Could you imagine a packed Corbett with NCCU on one side and A&T on the other, with nothing to do all night but insult each other. Wow!

Even though I am in Athletics (thus I am biased), none of the gate receipts should go to Athletics unless the building is controlled by the Athletics Department ( rental fees) or the idea for the event came from Athletics. The building rental and insurance should take care of that already.

why couldn't our athletic department come up with an idea like this? we're always whining about the lack of funds we have, yet no one in the athletic department comes up with innovative ideas to raise funds. i certainly hope whoever our next athletic director is will bring with them an aggressiveness for raising funds. don't just keep your hand out begging for donations if you're not willing to take initiatives to help yourselves...
