Should A&T run the triple option? This offense seemed to have worked well for the Service Academies who can't get enough talent to compete on a regular basis against BCS teams.
I am not saying this will be a panacea or a guarantee to a championship but I think it may increase the chances of having a winning season every year and more 9-2 or 8-3 seasons.

Personally I would love to but Thrilla brings about a good question. That coaching tree is getting smaller and smaller.

The coach will have to be a young aggressive coach who has been in the system during his playing career and early coaching career; or a coach who is near retirement or is drawn out of retirement. I don't think A&T could find a seasoned coach in his 30's or 40's to come to Aggieland to install this offense and run it. I think A&T has the QBs and RBs to run it. They just need to build the offensive line but this is easier to say than actually getting it done.

I dont think this is a good idea, you are doing a disservice to the players you've recruited.

AggieJazz,
I definitely don't like this idea. How many of our players who don't fit that offense would tranfer? Perhaps, half the team including our QB and WRs. We're currently on the right path so let's keep moving forward with stability

Naw. I mean I would love it personally. I've been clamoring for a return to the wing-t or the veer for years.
But fans don't want to see it, hbcus (especially this one) and sterling execution generally don't go hand in hand, and Alvin Wyatt just got fired in part because the loud "fans" of BCU wanted him to throw the ball. Although I doubt very few players would transfer, who do we have that could coach them to anywhere near their full potential in the offense?
But man, I'd love to see us run the bone or something and see opposing d-linemen fearing for their legs play after play.

I am old-school so I love the triple option, thats the offence we ran in H.S.-- I know everybody loves the pro style offence but it is hard to find QB's to run a really good pro style. It is easier to convert a good RB into an option QB and there are plenty of good RB's out there. GATech won the ACC running this offence. As far as a trip-option coach, what about Kermit Blount? He ran that offence in H.S. and at WSSU. He also ran the wing-T at WSSU. He was really good at it. Remember the butt whipping we took from Elon in 99 (Trip-Option)!!!

We would have to get an entire new offensive coaching staff.
If we tried to install a triple option attack our offense would look like organized confusion for the first 2 years. Think back to 2008 - but only worse.
It would require way too much discipline and attention to detail.

Thats probably why you don't see a lot of schools running the trip-option!!!!!

The positive about the triple option is it is less difficult to find recruits who can run it. It will eat up a lot of game clock and wear down opponents' defense.
The negatives are it is hard to play catch up when the team is behind by two touchdowns or more. Fans like to see their team throw the ball. The pitch out by the QB is risky.
Pro sets negatives: it is more difficult to find recruits (QB especially) who can excel in it. It puts a lot of pressure on the offensive line.
Pro sets positives: recruits like it even though it is not right for them, fans like the passing.

We use to run a version of it under Coach Hayes.
If we could get Coach Wyatt from Bethune Cookman to coach it, I would run it.

Not quite. We ran the wing-t under Coach Hayes with occasional option plays. Wing-t is based more on misdirection than option pitches and reads, and angle blocking instead of cut-blocking.

i don't see why "aspects" of the triple option can't be incorporated into almost any type of offense, including the spread. when i was in high school, we ran the option out of the "power i" formation, but there's no reason to run the triple option for the entire game...
