NOTE NORFOLK STATE TRANSFERS.........By Vicki Friedman The Virginian-Pilot © June 20, 2008 Norfolk State has added two more Division I-A football transfers to its roster.
Shane Moore, a 6-foot-2, 286-pound defensive tackle, and Dwight Fluker-Berry, a 6-2, 190-pound defensive back, will be eligible this fall.
Both are sophomores. Moore spent his freshman season at Marshall, and Fluker-Berry was at West Virginia last year. He didn't play.
NSU has two additional transfers eligible for this season: quarterback Dennis Brown (Connecticut) and inside linebacker Mike Alphonse (Akron).
Moore played in 10 games as a true freshman, recording six tackles for losses and making one start in a loss at Cincinnati. The Browns Summit, N.C., native played for Northeast Guilford High his senior year.
"The situation at Marshall wasn't advantageous for me anymore," Moore said. "It wasn't a good fit."
Moore, who wanted to be closer to home, said he was drawn to NSU due to the coaching staff, especially Mark Thurston.
"He brings a lot of energy and passion to the game," Moore said.
Fluker-Berry was a three-star prospect in high school and was listed at No. 26 on the rivals.com rankings his senior year. He attended Miami's Norlund High School, where Thurston coached the defensive line in 2003-04.
Fluker-Berry initially signed with North Carolina in 2005, but academics forced him to attend Fork Union Military Academy for a year. After that he signed with West Virginia.
The Spartans, who finished 8-3 last season, open the season Aug. 30 against Virginia State.

If Shane Moore really wanted to be closer to home why did he choose to be 3 hours away from home. He might as well stayed at Marshall (WVA). Closer to home would have been A&T, WSSU, NCCU, Elon.
