I think defensively it will begin and end up front. We have to have a stronger tackle - someone equal in size and strength to play beside Kelvin Jackson (6-4,300). Now the common belief is that JUCO transfer Lewis Leveston (6-3, 325) will be the answer. He had a fairly impressive resume when I researched him on the JUCO web site.
I did like what I saw of conditioning and upper body improvement of sophomore prop 48 Kreg Clark (6-1,310) and R-Jr. Adam Beal (6-2, 295) in the spring as the prime backups.
Jarrell Herring at the pass rush end is a definite D-1 type player who we got from the JUCO ranks. He has the size and the speed (6-3,265, 4.9) - something we haven't had at the strong end in four years. Keep in mind this kid committed to Michigan early in 2006, and was a top ten prospect coming out of that state, before the entrance scores killed that.
We are extremely fortunate to have gotten him off the rebound when the Big Ten came calling again. I think he learned a lesson about being a big fish in a smaller pond was to his benefit.
There are going to be a lot of freshmen vying and playing this fall along that front. Junior Trey Glasper will probably be the other end if he continues the weight training. He bulked up to about 270 in the off season and played well in the spring scrimmages.
Don't be surprised if one of the freshmen like Micah Stanfield, Aaron Bethea, Terry Davis, Brandon Young, and Antoine Lyons end up as the fourth part of the equation because they all can play and play right away.
Bringing in eight defensive linemen was no accident. It was priority number one and to his credit, Fobbs managed to get some really good ones.
Everywhere else we are very solid in the secondary and just overloaded in talent at linebacker.
But in the end, it is the defensive front four that will determine how much we'll improve as a team and if get out of the box with a couple of dominating wins at home early this fall.

Man what game was you at during spring practice. You must have been tending to your family during the game.

FYI -I take their measurments from the press guides and releases I receive for the Athletic Department although I don't think an inch up or down or there its even worth mentioning. The major point is our lines are way bigger, and stronger than last season and that's a good thing.
Trues, forgive Thrilla. He still believes the tooth fairy and the great pumpkin. The offense we are running this year requires a different style of QB than we are used to. Much like The wing-T, the QB needs to make the good throw on the quick slants and outs, play faking, and reading inside backer, the pass end, and the strong safety.
Fears was on target in the final scrimmage and Herb seemed to still trying to adjust to his reads. In fairness to Miller, because I personally like him, Fears ran this offense in most at Ga. Military for 2 straight years.

Aggie One, whatever happened to the kid from Harnett Central named Rodney Cox the QB that we lost to ECU a year ago. He is no longer on the ECU roster and would fit great into the offense that we are trying to run. Dual-threat quarterback Angier (NC) Harnett Central Ht: 6-foot-6 Wt: 228 lbs

He redshirted last season to focus on academics. ECU plans to move him to tight end this season. What a waste!

He had no chance when he signed with ECU to be a QB but you can't get a lot of kids to realize the difference between promises and reality when the recruiters come a knocking.

Thanks Paul for the uodate. I've been recruparating from spinal surgery the last month so the Jackson transfer must have happened after spring practice and that really puts a lot of the freshmen into play and explains why Kreg Clark played so much on the starting unit last spring.
Having Morgan back at quarterback was no surprise since Coach Fobbs had said that Morgan would be at QB this fall and I think I mentioned that in piece in the spring practice review. That puts the offense in a better situation at QB because the kid impressed me more than Miller despite the freshmen errors last year.

Speaking of transfers, note Hampton below.......growing list, and appears poised to add even another.
Pirates coach Jerry Holmes said Friday that Bryant Miller, a defensive end from Auburn, will play for Hampton this season. Holmes also said that former Florida State wide receiver Damon McDaniel wants to play for Hampton and that the school is "finalizing" the process of admitting him.
McDaniel and Miller would swell the list of I-A transfers to six since Holmes became the Pirates' head coach in December. The others are tailback LaMarcus Coker (from Tennessee), linebacker Brandon Peguese (South Florida), safety Ricardo Kemp (Tennessee) and linebacker J'Courtney Williams (Virginia).
McDaniel and Miller were ranked among the highest recruits at their positions in the Class of 2006, but played little during their first two years in college. Holmes said that Miller transferred to Hampton to get more playing time, while McDaniel plans to transfer because he wants to be closer to his Virginia Beach home.
"Bryant Miller can help us instantly, because we graduated our three starting defensive linemen last season," Holmes said. "I look for him to move to the top of the depth chart, start and make an immediate impact.
"We talked to Damon twice this week and he said he really wants to be part of the program, and wants to play right away. I don't want to say he's going to be on the roster until we finalize things, but we're working on that."
McDaniel, a 6-foot, 201-pounder, played two seasons at Florida State and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He caught seven passes for 86 yards and a touchdown for the Seminoles.
Rivals.com rated him as the No. 2 overall prospect in Virginia, and the No. 6 receiver nationally, during his senior year at Landstown High in Virginia Beach. McDaniel caught 148 passes for 2,806 yards and 39 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Landstown.
His brother, Marquay McDaniel, spent last season on the Denver Broncos' practice squad after completing a prolific career at HU in 2006. Marquay McDaniel holds the HU record for single-season touchdown receptions (14), shares the career TD reception record (22) and saw his single-season receptions record (59) surpassed last year, when Jeremy Gilchrist caught 69 passes.
"I think Damon is impressed by the fact that Marquay was on an NFL practice squad last season and that he's competing for a roster spot now," Holmes said. "Bryant Miller also sees that this program has had defensive players drafted the past two years."
Holmes said that Miller got caught up in a numbers game at Auburn, which is famous for annually producing bruising defenses. Miller signed with Auburn, out of Miami (Fla.) Central High, as Rivals' No. 6-rated defensive lineman nationally.
He redshirted one year at Auburn and saw little playing time in his other year there. He will have three years of eligibility at Hampton.
Rivals.com listed several impressive workout numbers for Miller as a high school senior: 4.78-second 40-yard dash, 355-pound bench press and 29-inch vertical jump.
HU's Div. I-A transfers NAME, POSITION, FORMER SCHOOL
• LaMarcus Coker, RB, Tennessee
• Brandon Peguese, LB, South Florida
• Ricardo Kemp, S, Tennessee
• J'Courtney Williams, LB, Virginia
• Bryant Miller, DE, Auburn
• *Damon McDaniel, WR, Florida State

Part of the problems that Fobb has had in building this team is that he cannot keep the same players. Too much attrition
