Wheeler made his first presentation to the board of trustees on Thursday, I was sitting in the back of the room and recorded it. I sent the link to Thrilla if he wanted to post it on BDV but until then here's the YouSendIt link to download it. download.yousendit.com/B3BAD69234CB512C

I'm not sure how I can convert that to an smaller file size. Yousendit might be the best way to post this.

Wheeler sounds like he definitely has a handle on things.

Listening to this, I get the sense that the Board is really out of touch in regards to athletics.

Wheeler did a great job explaining how we got into the bind and says we need another $1.3M to again reach the top tier of the MEAC. Did you know.. 1. FB made $850k .... down from $150K from the previous year due to a losing record. 2. MBB made $485k .... $408K from 9 guarantee games ( 1-8 record).
$6.2M total athletic budget.....interesting and I think he knows the dept better than anyone else!

Thrilla,
BOT meetings are open to the public. If an issue requires sensitive discussion they'll go into a "closed session." That portion of the meeting is not open to the public. Minutes (from the open session) are available through the Chancellor's office. Be patient when you request them, it takes them many weeks to deliver.

1. FB made $850k .... down from $150K from the previous year due to a losing record. IF HE drops the game to jcsu....it will be the lowest in the history of college football!!!

Listening to this, I get the sense that the Board is really out of touch in regards to athletics. Its my belief previous ADs were not effective at educating the board on athletic issues and their dependencies.

That's why I don't understand the idea of playing 7 home football games this year?

you still have people mad at davis for scheduling WF... but if football doesn't hurry up & play some big money games the department may go under... it will be interesting to see what kind of gate jcs will generate.... if it does well... you may want to consider f'ville st. instead of a coastal carolina on the schedule... it's about making money now... the party's over...!!!!!!!!!

I think the meetings are open to the public, but if you aren't like required to be there, they have you sign something saying who you are. I know I've had to sit through those long boring meetings all year long, with SGA president David Street and I being the only students present.
This was Wheeler's first time speaking to the board officially, he has been attending the meetings though and has a better seat than Ms. Todd had (her seat was right next to me lol).

Wheeler is going to make it work and going to the BOT was the first step. I was there and the thing that stuck out to the board the most was the Athletic Budget. We are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

Wheeler is going to make it work and going to the BOT was the first step. I was there and the thing that stuck out to the board the most was the Athletic Budget. We are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. The Young SGA President makes a point. I've communicated with Wheeler...and during my tenure on Tuition and Fee committee, it was him not Dee who was answering the hard questions regarding our budget. The adminstration understands we need to do something about the athletic budget, our students don't fully understand that there isn't state funds allocated to athletics. So its up to Athletics and the hell hole we call Development to do their jobs and raise money, its our job to give back and its the student's job to realize that they are going to have to support athletics... I'll find me numbers, but I can say this... $1000 athletic fee right now looks mighty reasonable if it fully funds athletics and ties into "Student Wellness" Go Wheeler!!!... I'm writing my letter to Velma recconmending him for the job!!!
