My short list of possible head coaches that would take it up to the next level. Here’s my take…
Fobbs will probably be fired after the Coastal Carolina game… At that time we will probably be 1-4 or 0-5... Within the coaching industry, it’s a known fact, “If you don’t win, you will get fired”, so this will come as no surprise to the staff. At that time with possibly Wheeler Brown still holding the interim tag, he would not have much juice to name the immediate successor, so the helms would then roll over to George Ragsdale.
1a. Ron Aiken, Defensive Line Coach, Arizona Cardinals
Vetern collegiate assistant now in his first year with the Cardinals. as head coaching experience on the colleiate level as well. Former Aggie who started on the ofensive line. Has ties to Eastern NC, Tidewater VA, and South Carolina.
Drawbacks: Will he leave the NFL after just getting to the mecca of football.
1b. Dwaine Board, Defensive Line Coach, Seattle Seahawk
Former three time All-American here, (who is not in the Aggie Sports Hall of Fame), has gained a vast amount of experience coaching in the NFL. I am sure he has established a circle of coaches with a great deal of knowledge of the game. Can possibly take Aggie Football to a new level.
Drawbacks: No collegiate experience in recruiting, would almost have to keep Ragsdale & Oliver.
3. Emmitt Thomas, Assistant Head Coach, Atlanta Falcons
Former chitterling circuit quarterback and highly respected coach in the NFL. Superior knowledge of the game, with an incredible personality. Can get player to believe in his system and way of doing things. A true players coach.
Drawbacks: Would he even consider this job.
4. John Blake, Associate Head Coach, UNC-Chapel Hill
Considered by many the nations top recruiter. Young and up and coming, only 47. Comes to A&T knowing the region.
Drawbacks: Will he even leave the confines of Butch Davis and the powder blue.
5. Steve Logan, Offensive Coordinator, Boston College
Originally applied for the job after the firing of Bill Hayes. Itching to get back to North Carolina. Has developed strong alliances with coaches within the state, especially Eastern NC while an assistant and then head coach at East Carolina.
Drawbacks: Could he still be offended that he was not hired earlier.
6. Mark Saunders, Head Coach, Grimsley High School
Personality goes a far here. Has some experience on the pro level as a head coach in Arena Football 2. Knowledge of he inadequacies of NCA&TSU and how to move around the campus to get things done as he coached here some 10+ years and also served as recruiting coordinator under Bill Hayes.
Drawbacks: Probably happy at Grimsley where they treat him very well. A lot more time spent on the collegiate level. Has a young child.
7. Terrell Williams, Defensive Line Coach, Purdue University
Itching to get away from Purdue after receiving less responsibilities in 2008. A young and up coming coach at 35 with an uncanny eye for talent. His influence has been felt where ever he has traveled. High Character guy!!!
Drawbacks: Young, but married.
Notables: Elvin Bethea, NFL Hall of Famer
Keith Henry, Defensive Line Coach, Wake Forest University
Johnson “Jeep” Hunter, Former Tight Ends Coach, Georgia Tech
Alonzo Lee, Defensive Coordinator, Morgan State University
Kevin Wilson, Offensive Coordinator, Oklahoma University
