0-5? LOL If we lose to JCS then we are definitely going to go 0-11 again. So fire him after 0-2 in my opinion. Dont drag it out.

What about adding Ray Petty to that list? He has coordinated two BCF championship teams at Howard, he's helped Del St get over the hump and win a MEAC title. His defenses are always ranked high in the Meac and NCAA. He's familiar with NC, because that is his home state and has coached at A & T before. The entire Ath Dept at howard has been bad since the current President took over so dont say look at his record at howard (it's important but he had one hand tied behind his back). High admission standards, lack of funding, and the worst facilities in the MEAC

His defensive sets against Delaware were the bomb.

Yes he and the entire go t outcoached in that game, but that happens. I am sure everyone of that list has had that kind of game before if not 2 or 3 of them. When the other team is better then you and they are hitting on all cylinders, what can you do? besides start the bus

you win, I guess he is the only coach to ever get the snot beat of him. Pick any coach ever in the history of the game and I'm almost certain that 100% of them has a game on their record like that. Maybe he just not the guy for A&T. It was just a name to throw out there.

I'm just saying if we are going to name dream candidates (with the emphasis on the word dream) there are alot of guys more appealing than Petty.
Give me somebody who has had a sniff of success in the playoffs.

In my opinion, he ain't a head coach. I've met him several times. He was like a lite-skindedded Small, except where Small was really a very friendly and genuinely warming individual to be around, Petty was just a dude you talked to. He didn’t have a leader of men personality. He also didn’t win a lot of games. If he couldn’t make water into wine at Howard, I doubt he could do it in Greensboro.
Even if one chooses to ignore the criteria for finding a winning coach that I posted above, I think if you have any hopes of A&T getting back to winning ways you would know that you have to hire somebody that has done a lot more with a lot less. Does Petty fit that bill? I think not. Generally, A mediocre coach with get you mediocre results. A coach with no record will get you no wins. A coach with a winning track record will get you winning results, so long as you provide him with similar or better support than he got at his previous stop.
I honestly think it is very simple to hire a person that can win here. I think we muddy up the waters by shooting for people simply because they come from a “big-time” program or have pro experience or are black.
A few years ago there was a thread on another message board asking what can hbcus do to win in the playoffs. My response was that hbcus didn’t really want to win in the playoffs. Case in point, FAMU just spent a grip to get Joe Taylor as coach. The only playoff game that cat has won was against Albany State when Hampton was d-2. He has zero experience coming up with a winning scheme against a playoff caliber pwc. And when he leaves FAMU he still won’t have that experience. When you have eight pros, a fifth year senior at qb, and a home game, you have no right to lose a playoff game. Yet he did it. He did it because his opposition had out-scouted his special teams.
My personal goal for A&T is playoff wins, or back to division II, period. Right now we haven’t even won a game in over two years and people will mutiny when you mention division II, so I think our goals must be at opposite ends of the spectrum.
