We’re already are earmarked to receive $1.25 million from state gambling revenues beginning 24/25, iirc, 2025 at the latest. Are you sure that money can be used for athletics? www.higheredworks.org/2023/10/unc-system-officials-praise-state-budget/Athletics Policy: For the first time, the state budget includes $10 million – $1 million each – for the UNC System’s 10 smallest athletics departments. Haygood said 13 institutions will also receive a portion of the state’s sports-betting revenue when sports betting starts in the state in 2024. 3 Haygood noted that UNC athletics collectively generate $1.1 billion a year in economic impact for the state. 4 But many athletic programs operate at a deficit, she said, and the additional support will help reduce pressure on student athletics fees.

Are you sure that money can be used for athletics? It’s exclusively FOR Athletics. Yes the money is for Athletics, AD Hilton said as much when he met with AAF members in the Triangle a couple weeks ago. He also went into detail about how the recent changes to how out of state students can be funded at the cost of in state athletes and its impact on our program and recruiting. He also said that the majority of our facility upgrades would need to be funded through state funding (convocation center) and debt services (much of everything else) , as we don't have the option to raise athletics fees like some of our CAA peers. The rest will need to be "raised" by us and other supporters though the athletics capital campaign. He said consultants are putting together the framework to determine the needed infrastructure to raise the money and realistically how much money we can raise. The final report would go to the BOT for approval and the campaign would start shortly thereafter...he was targeting the first quarter of next year. I'm sure there will be bumps along the way...but I would rather we be in the CAA and "build out" than be in the MEAC or Big South and "build out". Anyway you look at it we were going to have to make many of the improvements folks on this board have been wanting for years. We were not going to "stay put", hope for the best and see what happens.

Just to be clear...and to make sure I'm reading this right...the AD spoke to this but it was a couple weeks ago. We should get roughly $1 million as a part of the state budget....and another $1.25 million as a portion of the state's sport-betting revenue. If that's true our $15-16 million budget will be $17-18 very soon. Since we get the majority of our athletic fees through enrollment it will be important we keep growing (which we are doing). Our University masterplan...as well as our athletics masterplan run out to 2038. I don't think a $20+ million athletics budget is unrealistic over the next 5 years...or a steady $25+ million budget over the next 10+ years We got big plans...and will run in to problems along the way. That said, the sky is not falling...we are just getting started ! Work the plan, make changes where we need to...but continue to move forward.

I wonder how we will use the additional $1M...
Maybe add to the endowment?

Did he say anything about a locker-room renovation?

I thought the locker-room renovation was part of the expansion plan for the fieldhouse.

I'm just wondering which one or more of our "peer" institutions are going to sit by and wait for us to get up to 25 milly or whatever?
I'm willing to bet money the ones behind us are going to zoom right past us in short order.

I'm willing to bet money the ones behind us are going to zoom right past us in short order. >> This is what usually happens. Compared to us how many years has Liberty, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Campbell ... etc being playing college football ? 3 of the 4 listed is FBS.

So, no more fieldhouse expansion plans now? fieldhouse or administrative building? There was a plan to extend the fieldhouse all the way around the endzone, to were the chancellor's tent and beer garden is now.
