Brown graduated and coached at an HBCU. Bankins, Henry and Gallon all have coached at HBCUs as well. Coordinators will not come directly from a HBCU. The university is pretty clear on that. The head coaches at A&T will not come directly from HBCUs. Our values are clear. Coordinators are hired by head coaches not administration. Our softball coach was hired directly from Claflin🙂 Jose Gonzalez, Jr. became the eighth head coach in the history of North Carolina A&T fastpitch softball (which started in 1994) when Director of Athletics, Earl M. Hilton III announced his hiring on June 13, 2023. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Gonzalez brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to Aggieland on the Division I and Division II collegiate levels. He spent two seasons at Division II Claflin University after 14 successful seasons at Savannah State. Gonzalez's first season coaching the Claflin Panthers program in 2022 was historic. Gonzalez led the Panthers to their first-ever Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship Below is why he got the job!!!! Post season success. They used the momentum from that milestone to reach the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship Tournament, where they earned wins over Shippensburg and Bloomsburg before losing in the regional final to Seton Hill.

Outside of Damon Wilson what HBCU coach has had success vs PWIs?
Oliver next 2 - 3 years without Richards will determine his trajectory.

Coach Brown needs to get out in front of this and make an announcement ASAP.
The longer he allows speculation to build, the greater chance we are all gonna be unsatisfied with the eventual hire.

I said a little while ago that he needed to make the announcement that he was releasing our OC at the post game presser after the Campbell game .If he has in fact released him he needs to make a public announcement ,so that all of his prospective recruits ,high school and transfer portal knows the program's intentions going forward ,ASAP!!!

He doesn’t need to if he has somebody in mind. I think the bigger challenge is making sure HR doesn’t get in the way in making a swift replacement hire.

Regardless of how long it takes just get it right. Wrong choice will set this program back even further.
Remember Rod Broadway wasn't hired till February 2011.

That was hbcu national championship winning, coming to coach in the meac with an established staff Rod Broadway. Different scenario here.
This is Vincent Brown needing an oc he can basically hand the whole offensive side of the ball and never think about it. Whether or not he wants to do that, he absolutely needs to be able to in order to build the overall program.

Announcing you fired your OC has nothing to do with you have someone else in mind. Think about it. How does that affect who you have in mind? What it may do is help recruiting, ease the constant speculation by the fans, and possibly get candidates that he had no idea that could be interested in the job. I see more upside vs downside. Why take the more difficult path?

Like I said on the podcast, our most important hire this offseason is the QB coach. It doesn't matter who is calling plays if our quarterbacks are not developed properly. Are you suggesting an exclusive QB coach or QB coach/OC? Because, I have always maintained that when Broadway left Washington the blueprint to success, Washington didn't maintain the blueprint. Our undefeated team in 2017 had both a QB coach and Offensive Coordinator. When Broadway retired and the OC left for Barton, Washington bumped our then QB coach to OC and he doubled as the OC and QB coach which, I thought was a mistake. Our offense didn't necessarily show it the first 2 seasons with all the talent we had but, it definitely showed Washington's last 2 seasons. I think we should hire both positions.

Above the high school ranks, this is the way that it should work.
As a professional, Coach Brown needs to Trust The Process himself, IMHO.

Dont care if it is a OC/QB coach combo or a standalone QB coach, but the next QB coach needs to be a proven expert in developing young quarterbacks.
I dont want somebody who just adds the QB coach title to their job description so they can justify getting paid more money.
