NC State's Doeren: 'Surprised' starting QB Morris wanted to redshirt NC State football coach Dave Doeren said his program would honor starting quarterback MJ Morris' decision to sit out the final three regular-season games of the season to preserve a year of eligibility. But Doeren said he was "surprised" that it was even being considered after Morris took over as the Wolfpack's starter. NC State (6-3, 3-2 in the ACC) is 3-1, including wins against Clemson and Miami, with Morris as the starting quarterback. Morris, a sophomore, will have three years of eligibility remaining. Brennan Armstrong will be the team's starter again. www.wralsportsfan.com/nc-states-doeren-surprised-qb-morris-wanted-to-redshirt/21141238/

So not always the coach approaches the player, but the player can approach the coach. I guess the key to this story is to keep an open and honest communication with each other (coach, player, and parents) in the best interest for all. Also, this person proved in "actual games that the team won" that he was the best at his position leaving no doubt. NCSU is already bowl eligible with the 6 wins, but has no chance of winning the conference championship so I guess they looked at it as a win-win situation.

Should we risk playing White this game? We have burned his redshirt eligibility, so the only questions are the risk of him further injuring himself, do we absolutely need him to win this game, or is it more important for us to evaluate our other QBs against a comparable opponent in talent. Eli looks different against CAA opponents vs more talented OOC opponents. Maybe other QBs will as well.
Can we successfully evaluate players and "coaches" while still winning the game? Maybe we need White to play to truly evaluate his passing against a comparable opponent since he got injured early in the last game against a comparable opponent.

Whites playing is dependent on the injury and the same can be said for Eli . We know that Hooker is not going to play ,so the only option is Yeager. In saying that it may be Eli or White . My focus is on the play of the O linemen. As far as evaluation. I think they have seen enough of what White can do and is capable of ,as for Eli he should get start this game because his evaluation is still open . Starter Eli , back up White if he can go .
