Take those apartments or housing down. Build some new apartments that are gated for the students to live in. Who cares about money. A kids life is a lot more important. It makes me sick to hear this again.

An 18 yr old female student from Chicago is dead from the shooting this evening. My son just sent the info to me. It just hit the news tonight. Young black women being the victims of gun violence is unnerving.

Greensboro police chief presents counterintuitive plan to cut officer positions to help bolster the department
By Justyn Melrose, Lauren Crawford GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Two young women were killed by gun violence in Greensboro in the span of just four days, and it happened at a time when Greensboro police are short-staffed and overwhelmed with calls. North Carolina A&T student Deja Rae Reaves, 18, of Chicago, was shot and killed on Tuesday night on the 1000 block of Sullivan Street, which is northeast of downtown Greensboro. Investigators say there is a second gunshot victim who is expected to be OK. North Carolina A&T parents outraged over lack of communication after man arrested with dozens of weapons on campus Three days earlier, Grimsley High School student Ariyonna Fountain, 17, was shot and killed on Saturday while sitting on her front porch on Ogden Street. Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson says the department is down 115 sworn officers. Because of the staffing shortage, they have to cut back on the services his department offers the community, which is something the city can’t afford to do with the recurring violence plaguing the city. Part of the problem, Thompson says, is that the Greensboro Police Department is losing officers to nearby cities like Burlington that are able to pay more. The chief says he has a plan, but it may sound counterintuitive. He presented the idea to the Greensboro City Council on Tuesday. “What I am going to ask is that the council reduce my authorized strength by 30 positions,” Thompson said. “I am not a math guy, but I am pretty good with numbers. That would roughly equate to about $2 million dollars.” Those funds could then go toward essentially giving $3,000 raises to staff across the board. Then, to free up officers to investigate violent crime, he is looking into converting five officer positions to civilian roles as part of the Greensboro Motorist Assistant Program. Chancellor calls NC A&T 'One of the safest universities' despite multiple incidents, including off-campus shooting that killed freshman North Carolina A&T Chancellor Harold Martin says the campus is "One of the safest universities within the UNC system."
Author: Daniel Crews Published: 6:57 PM EDT April 5, 2023 Updated: 6:57 PM EDT April 5, 2023GREENSBORO, N.C. — An 18-year-old North Carolina A&T freshman died Tuesday night after someone started shooting, less than a mile from the university. A man is also accused of bringing several guns, ammo and other weapons to campus, late last month. An on-campus shooting left a car damaged last week and a rumored threat put students on edge. Chancellor Harold Martin addressed the multitude of safety concerns during a virtual town hall on Wednesday. Chancellor Martin says North Carolina A&T did not initially alert the campus about the man that brought those weapons onto campus. The university made the decision to inform students after the media learned about the incident and subsequent arrest. Most recently, a shooting less than a half-mile from campus killed Deja Reeves, an A&T freshman from Chicago. A 20-year-old woman was also injured. She has been treated and released from the hospital. Despite these incidents, Chancellor Martin says the campus is still safe. "We are amongst the safest universities within the UNC system and across the country. I can not stress that enough. The facts bear that out," said Chancellor Martin. On Wednesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after a deadly shooting, friends of Deja Reeves scoured the area, where she was shot, for any of her belongings that were left outside. Chancellor Martin and Campus Police Chief Jermaine Cherry addressed security concerns at the off-campus housing complex where Reeves was killed. Reeves was the 4th A&T student killed at that complex since 2016. "We are amongst the safest universities within the UNC system and across the country. I can not stress that enough. The facts bear that out," said Chancellor Martin. Not what I want to hear if one of my kids lost their life while a student there. Chancellor Martin needs a fixer to handle this stuff.

I saw something that suggested the university buy the cottages, not sure what i think about that. But i do not think the university puts enough pressure on the owners of that property to make sure it is secure. Why hasn’t the media tracked down the owners? I would also like to see the other crimes that happen on that property.
Does anyone know who owns it?
