I think the last one Coach said will stay the same (3.0). Why have walk-ons that don't help with your GPA. Because they me help your team; ask some of our previous walkons.

No doubt that there can be exceptions. I wonder if he would waive whatever requirement he has for a kid he thinks can really play or would he just offer some sort of scholarship.

So at the 44 min walk the question was asked to coach Brown about the GPA requirement Coach said it's for enrolled students. It came became it was close to 15 kids that w were Walk ons that were under a 2.0 GPA. These kids were becoming a drain on the academic support staff of the football program. He wants players that are strong students and that are assets to the program www.youtube.com/live/KHS6y95O2Uw?si=kDV1sWCqq87MBGLF

Coach Brown and/or the Administration made GPA an issue. They could have not even made GPA a requirement for tryouts like lots of high academic colleges. Students that were admitted to A&T last year had an average GPA of 3.8 and we are concerned about the GPA of walk-ons. How did these walk-ons even get admitted into such a high academic institution if their GPAs were poor (joking)? I suspect that the football team's GPA is at or below the 3.0 level or not enough interest was generated last Spring which is why Coach Brown was comfortable in lowering the walk-on tryout GPA from 3.4 to 3.0. Some on here are unaware that the head coach can ask the Admission Office to waive the standard minimum admission at A&T for scholarship athletes (must satisfy NCAA eligibility requirements which is much lower). Therefore the average student body admission GPA maybe quite different compared to that of any average school team GPA. People constantly interchange the two as though they are the same. Schools with great student-athlete tutoring programs in place have fewer problems with keeping up or exceeding the average GPA of the student body. In my opinion if coach did not want this debated in the public, then don't list this as a requirement. Just go about your normal business of finding your diamonds in the rough amongst the walk-ons while evaluating if their GPA is acceptable outside the public's eye. The end. Lot less scrutiny by all (me included). 3.8 is not a HIGH GPA anymore lol. I have players I train and they make mostly C's and they have 3.2's in high school. A 3.8 in high school doesn't translate to a 3.0 in college. That's a B average especially since T doesn't do +/- I Have a kid right now who barely gets any academic aid from his d2 and he graduated with a 3.4 @ 3.0 ,3.4 you're asking for our kids on academic scholarship to come play football.. LOL MAN THERE ARE NO BALLERS ON CAMPUS WITH THAT GPA WILLING TO GIVE UP THEIR FREEE TIME TO BE A BODY on the practice squad

Also Walk on players are contributors, most are not game day contributors but still love the game. And some are not contributing because they are not on scholarship not because they are not good players..i.e Hooker . Texas A&M uses Walk-Ons as part of the 12th man specialty units. Hell alot of programs use walk-ons on there specialty units .You guys are making this harder than it really is.

A little bit of a difference that I don't know if it matters or not: I believe J. Taylor was a PWO.

Also some walk-on's are walk-ons by choice ! I have had and know of numbers of explayers that chose to walk on to a specific program because that is the institution and program they wanted to play for. And a lot of these guys had offers from other Athletic program at all 5 levels . Like you said a walk-on is a walk-on preferred or not and because they are walk-on that dose not mean that they are not players .

The distinction between PWO and Walk-On is relevant in this case. Coach Brown, said the GPA requirement was for kids already on campus, attempting to join the team.
It is not a requirement for incoming freshmen.
So, Taylor would’ve been eligible regardless.
