My order of qb's that I personally witnessed playing over the years. 4. Stan The Man Jacob's 3. Raynard 2. Ellsworth 1. Hooker Did you ever see Maynor? Where would you put him? Honestly I also thought Matkins was very good for the one year we had him and completely misused him. I'm betting he had better tools than all those guys combined. I want to say he completed around 55% of his passes in an era when all the other qbs were under 50%. He also had a game over 350 yards (losing effort of course) in an era where throwing more than 20 times a game was blasphemy. If we gone go off topic then we just gone go off topic.

There was a time when I would have bet money that Lewis Kindle was destined to go down as one of the all-time greats.

Wow, what a thread! I was buried at work the last two days. It hasn't been this kind of chatter since the "Foobs Error". Thank you LR7. A little over the top (Dooms did you edit his post?), but welcome to the fan side of athletics. It only gets better, but don't limit your opinions. It really get heated when the discussion turns to the turf at Aggie Stadium. Sorry, meant BB&T, that's another hot button issue. One dude went off about the scoreboard at War Memorial, that was truly epic. Dude had pictures and everything. This is the A&T Fan Forum (all things A&T good or bad), a giant barber shop, except everyday is Saturday. People come and people go, please stay and share. BTW: The greatest all-time quarterback is Leonard "The Snake" Reliford (just a fan's opinion). Man, I used to call for Hornsby head, when he would take out Snake and but in Paul McKibbins. Everybody knew McKibbins should have been playing receiver. Reliford had better touch on his balls then Paul but Paul could extend plays with his legs . Paul threw a short pass with just as much velocity as he would the long ball you had to have hands to catch Paul's passes...lol . I hand hands but Hornsby hated my guts along with that Dick Grooms . Reliford always throw a sweet catchable ball nice tight sparrow with touch . Reliford was a speed receivers dream. I caught passes from both of them Reliford had his strengths and Paul had his . As for calling for Hornsby's head you where not along . Face screwed over a lot of good athletes with his BS politics . My Bad it is not appropriate to speak negatively of the Dead . But Reliford was a good one . Reliford probably was the best passer that was there during my time at A&T. McKibbins was a dual threat guy. Hornsby put them both off the team my freshman year and went with Turner and never looked back.

Forgot about Connell Maynor. To me, Turner was the best this era. Back in the day, as most of you say, there was Paul Swann, Donald Boone, Robert "Stonewall" Jackson who was the first HBCU player drafted by the NFL, but not as a quarterback. He was a running back for the Giants.

Connell Maynor stats don't really demonstrate how good he was...he was a coach playing qb. He knew what every position was supposed to do on a given play.

Offense AND defense for that matter. He was ridiculously talented and competitive. Still is.

So far on this thread we've gotten input from a former A&T starting QB, a former A&T QB's dad, a former A&T athletic director, a former presidential candidate, some A&T football historians, and a host of regular misfits who are just enjoying the fireworks. This is why BDV.com is the greatest fan site ever created. lol Man I don't fit in none of those categories other than misfits. Dam my feelings are hurt LOLOLOL!!!!!

Even though Raynard has all of the records I would put Connell Maynor slightly ahead of him.
He played for the Rams before coming to us.

no question that raynard was the winningest aggie qb that i've ever seen and i've pretty much seen them all ever since the days of elsworth turner. but i'm not so sure that he was "the best" ever aggie qb.
admittedly, i'm a little biased because i was a little "snotty nosed" freshman when elsworth turner played, so i favor what he did back in the mid to late 70's. elsworth probably didn't have better "numbers" than raynard, but that's mainly because back in those days most hbcu's placed a heavy emphasis on the running game instead of passing. so i'm sure without looking that elsworth had fewer "attempts" than raynard.
but elsworth was one hail of a "passer" and could run too. matter fact, elsworth was very "athletic". he even played "point guard" on the aggie basketball team for a couple of years. if my memory serves me correctly, i believe james "the bird" sparrow had to sit out one basketball season during that time due to grades. so that's when elsworth joined the team and was actually a very good "scoring" point guard.
elsworth's favorite targets were wr dexter feaster and slot guy, jimmy black (i think that was his name). and of course he had ragsdale in the backfield. that's the team that "upset" meac powerhouse scsu one year which brought on a "scsu curse" for us after that. jeffries was coaching scsu at the time and after that upset, scsu commence to "whup up on our azzes" so badd every year, i thought we'd never ever ever beat scsu again.
i mean, every single game against them after the upset was an "embarrassing" azz whuppin' blowout by 30 points or more. we were not suppose to have beaten them the year we upset them and the way we "celebrated" after that upset really pissed them off. felt like our long 12 year winning streak over the buzzards years ago, except we were on the losing end...

Never mind the statistics or rings or championships...but for me, Alan Hooker will always be the best that played QB at A&T. Alan won some big games for us outside of the conference back when that was unheard of. Sure we have won big out of conference games lately but overall our teams today is way better than it was when Alan played. During Alan's era, those teams didn't have nearly the overall talent to take on PWI's but they did and won!

He might have a potty mouth but Lamar Raynard is the best Aggie quarterback of all time. More importantly he has the hardware to prove it. C'mon 34-2 as a starter? That record will never be surpassed!!
This convo should be about second best qb because LR7 has the #1 spot on lock down.
