Who is in our athletic department for marketing and promotions? Are we paying for the best people? I will bet 25 bucks the students aren't being used. And hell we have one of the better business schools in the state. I can't answer those questions.
I'm not saying that the people aren't good. Maybe a different strategy needs to be implemented OR maybe emphasis needs to be shifted to a different area of the plan.
Most of our (MEAC) schools don't utilize our students nor our departments on campus properly, IMHO. Collectively, we have hundreds of Journalism/Mass Communications, Business and Marketing majors who would absolutely love to be working on behalf of their athletics departments just for the experiences to be reflected on their resumes...but we don't reach out and connect with them.
That failure is on our MEAC administrations...but it's not too late to fix it!
FOR YEARS, I've been calling for a March meeting during the MEAC Basketball Tournament of all MEAC marketing people, game operations people, stadium operations people, SGA reps and SIDs to brainstorm together and figure out ways to increase all of our revenues, customer service and game attendance numbers, but it always falls on deaf ears in the Conference Office. But I keep bringing it up every chance that I get, For the life of me i don't get why we don't use students who like u said need the work on their resume. They are also free. And the most important thing , they are the exact demographic we are trying to target

Perhaps not to the extent being suggested here but I have the impression students are being used in marketing and athletics.

There are student interns in positions throughout athletics, including marketing. However, we shouldn't expect students to perform the work of someone that has at least 3-5 years of professional experience in marketing. If anything, as we're expanding our Sports Info staffing, it's time to expand the marketing staffing with a paid role(s).

If anything, as we're expanding our Sports Info staffing, it's time to expand the marketing staffing with a paid role(s). That would be a great move, IMHO. Another possible move would be to align the athletics department with marketing pros such as IMG or Learfield.
SIDE STORY: Back in the Spring of 2008, when Bill Hayes was AD at FAMU (and I was working under Hayes), through his personal connections over in Winston-Salem, he was able to sign us up with ISP-College, which later evolved into IMG. They were based out of Winston-Salem and we were the first HBCU to sign with them (at $30,000 per year). The president (Dr. James Ammons) was in our final on-campus meeting with ISP before signing up, and he approved the move. His only comment was that we probably should be in ISP-University (at $60,000 per year), but budget-wise we weren't able to do it at this time.
Three (3) months into the deal (in September), the university's general counsel abruptly cancelled the contract without informing Hayes or me beforehand. I found out when ISP called me to ask why the contract had been cancelled. I'm the one who informed Hayes.
Of course, Hayes stormed up to the General Counsel's office. The GC told Hayes that he had not heard of this deal, and that he didn't like the deal and decided to cancel it immediately. Hayes grabbed the GC and drug him up to the President's Office. Dr. Ammons told Hayes and the GC that he had never heard of the deal. (That's when Hayes started his exit strategy from FAMU.)
This is the kind of BS at the top levels that's still destroying that university.

The one huge difference between A&T and FAMU is that at A&T the big "money" decisions are done in consort between our Chancellor (Martin) and our AD (Hilton). FAMU seems to always be in the midst of a civil war waging between all its various factions - too many cooks in the kitchen.

I gradated 3 years ago and was living in greensboro up until last month...But I will say that as an alum, I only attended the home games when I knew another band was coming. Sitting in the “U” part of the stadium, I can barely see what’s happening on the field. So like most of the students, I relied on the band for entertainment. Even if uncg students did come to a game..What would make them come back? Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be our game day experience.

Limited thinking is why we don’t have a stadium that’s 3/4 or full .except homecoming and NCCU . You got start somewhere if you provided bus service to and from I think you could get a couple 100 UNCG kids... How much would it cost to run a shuttle bus down market street. Low investment !!! Thank you. We can try something different or sit on our hands and complain about a half empty stadium.

Maybe but I bet those that currently attend are black. Those kids probably only represent 15% of UNCG's demographics or less That maybe true (15%) but getting White , Hispanic or Asian students to attend sporting events and activities on HBCU campuses has always be a problem even if they are students at said HBCU's . Look that is a cultural thing you can offer to share your culture and identity to others but it is up to them to accept the offer . There is nothing A&T or any HBCU can do to change a students mind that is closed . A&T can only be A&T it is up to the cultural bias students to change their mind and embrace and enjoy the HBCU experience . Kids will show up anywhere they are welcome and can have fun. Let's focus on getting them to visit one game and stop worrying about changing their minds about HBCUs!

I had niece who attended UNC-G and asked her the same question about A&T football attendance...
Her response was "Most black students who parents graduated from HBCUs loved going to A&T games....those who didn't were indifferent...
Think it is a matter of where you came from and background .....

It is 100% spot on. Sure we could bring in 20k to see us play Delaware St without a visiting band in the stands while watching paint dry for 4 hours in our stadium(great team, but we dont play an exciting style of football). That should entice more fans to return lol. Improve the game day experience and everything else will work itself out. As the game day experience improves and people show it on the many social media outlets available more will come. Corbett turned around nicely. Outside of the nccu game and ghoe, our TV games looked extremely dry for the casual fan watching. "Build it and they will come"

Our games are really dry...we lost our soul. The change started to happen once we stopped singing “good owe Aggie spirit”. Or A&T MF...who you wit.
The change in song after each touchdown killed me...we play PWI music after each score. Our crowd is majority black but that fight song is for PWIs, I’m not feeling it.

I actually like the Cannon fire after every touchdown. And fans may actually get excited over our offensive production this year. Well, their heart rates will be going up even more than they have in the past 2 years with Carter and Ifedi under center.
