Google Jacksonville State Dixie. They were playing it just last year. Personally I don't give a isht. I was just curious. They probably wouldn't play it while playing us anyways due to political correctness. I believe the last time it was played in the stands was at Ole Miss in 2010. 2012 was the last year it was played at an alumni function. Most old time members miss it because it is a really fun piece of music to play. The woodwind parts at the beginning are quite intricate, and “Dixie 2” where the full band comes in fortississimo is awesome... but we recognize the history associated with the song, and shelved it. Our band program recruits nationally, and is racially diverse. Continuing to perform a piece that has been vilified and makes some people uncomfortable doesn’t make sense. While a song or a flag are not inherently evil, the association with evil is enough to say enough. I do not speak for this board...I am speaking for myself only.
I disagree with you on that one point. That song and that flag are definitely inherently evil...from it's origins in the 1880s to right now. Just like the Nazi flag is banned in Germany, the Confederate flag should have been banned on the day after the South lost the Civil War. It serves only one purpose; a symbol of hatred, bigotry and intended intimidation.
As for "Dixie," it's expressed desire to return to a place where "Old times there are not forgotten" and "In Dixie's Land I'll take my stand" are more than self-explanatory. It is very offensive to most 21st Century People of Color.
And, again, these are my opinions only.

And, again, these are my opinions only.I respect your opinion. Your example of the swastika is actually a good one... it far predates The nazi party. I live in Asia where it is associated with Buddhism. The name swastika is Sanskrit and means good luck or well being. The symbol itself is not inherently evil, but the association is because it came to represent acts of evil that transpired under it. The confederate battle flag that is so vilified is the flag of the army of Northern Virginia, flown by Robert E. Lee. Most people wouldn’t actually recognize the flag of the confederate states of America. It has two red bars, separated by a white bar, and a panel with 13 stars in the same location as the 50 on Old Glory. I completely affirm the disuse of the ‘rebel flag’ and Dixie, as their association is offensive to so many people. Director of Bands Dr. Ken Bodiford is an old friend of mine. I will ask him when they stopped performing Dixie at Alumni and public events. I am fairly certain it was around 2012 for Alumni events, but public performance may have been earlier. I do remember ceasing performance was under discussion in 2009 or so. For what it is worth, Dr. Reginald McDonald from TSU and Ken are good friends. Living as a minority in Asia, I understand racism better than most. I have been refused service at restaurants and had taxis refuse to take me. I have been stared at, spit at, and harassed. Language wasn’t the problem... my color was. There is nothing I can do about it because the police always side with the national. I had a car run a red light and pull out in front of my scooter in October causing me to bite it at 50kmph. The police made me take a breathalyzer before the ambulance could take me to the hospital... I hate to hear that anyone had a problem at a JSU game... that is highly unusual. We are referred to as the friendliest campus in the south(google the term) for a reason. I have heard many stories about problems at TSU games, but I attribute that to Nashville, not TSU. Blessings and Happy Sunday to all. I hope this game happens.

I spoke with Ken this evening. Dixie was phased out in 2009.

JSU is not breaking in a new QB this season per se... our QB returns but is expected to be. Pushed if not overtaken. He was not a great passer... decent runner on read options, but outside of play action passes, he wasn’t a downfield threat.

I hope this game happens as well. Just wish they'd move it to a more neutral site.

Atlanta works. We have a strong presence there and decreases NC road trip by 3 hours.

man, some of ya'll are letting our undefeated season go to your heads! and our top 10 fcs ranking don't mean "squash" to me other than the national publicity we get. but i honestly don't think we were amongst the best 10 fcs teams in the country last season. sorry, but i ain't buying it. yes, no doubt we were the best hbcu in the country last year and we proved it! but that's a far cry from being a top 10 fcs team. imho, we're not on that level yet. i don't want no unnecessary "L's" on our record, especially since we're breaking in a new head coach... You can call me out specifically because I definitely feel we were a top 10 team last year. based on what? hey, i'm a diehard aggie too! but i'm also "realistic". who did we beat last season that deems us a true "top 10" fcs team in the country? certainly nobody in the meac would qualify for that, nor unc charlotte, gardner webb, or grambling. so what justification do you feel validates that we were a "true" top 10 fcs team last season? i'm asking because i personally don't see it, but would like to. maybe your justification can change my mind cuz right now i don't see us beating the 9 best fcs teams in the country and i base my opinion on recent history. not only has a&t never beaten a top 10 ranked fcs "pwc" team (not including tennessee state in the '99 playoffs), but no meac or swac team has done it for "almost" 2 decades. jacksonville state had been ranked #2 overall in the country last season until they loss in the playoffs and dropped to #9. imho, its gonna be quite a tall order to beat that team...

Oldschool, you sound shook right now. I'd be damned if I ever ran from a chance to play another FCS school, especially in front of a nationally televised audience. In my opinion, this is no different than when a top 5 ranked Coastal Carolina team came to Greensboro a few years back and we almost beat them with Quick at quarterback. Any given Saturday ... no, i'm not shook by any stretch. i'm just "realistic". granted, we "almost" beat ccu but that was in our home stadium, not at a nuetral site which is more less a home field advantage for jsu. i just didn't see "anybody" on our 2017 schedule that "proves" we can beat a team of jacksonville state's stature. now, who's to say that jsu will not be as strong next season? that i don't know, but who they return next season could be a factor. however, i'm basing my opinion on the season they had last year as well as the previous 2 or 3 seasons. jsu would've had an undefeated "regular season" last year had they not loss to georgia tech 37-10. their only other loss was in the fcs playoffs to kennesaw state 17-7. hey, i wouldn't have a problem playing jsu if we didn't already have ecu on the schedule. i don't like the probability of having 2 losses on our record prior to conference play...

Well it sucks to know you don't think we're a powerhouse, despite the evidence suggesting it posted almost on a daily basis but it's okay. We'll still have plenty of room on the bandwagon for you.

How much FCS football are you watching? I think James Madison and the Dakota Schools might be a cut above us, but we can definitely compete against anybody else in the top 10: www.fcs.football/cfb/polls.asp?div=fcsFor instance, Sam Houston was ranked #4 in the final polls and they nearly lost to Northwestern State who lost to Grambling ... who lost to us. Last year, we beat everybody on our schedule, including a FBS team that had 20 more scholarships than us. The year before that, we went on the road and beat a FBS team in Kent State that had 20 more scholarships than us. Two years before that we went to App State and beat them. I dont think you have an accurate understanding of just how strong our program has become right now and the state of FCS football in general.
