- If we play Jacksonville State, I'll be there;
- I, too, hope that we have someone else lined up in-case this ESPN Kickoff Classic doesn't work out for us;
- FAMU has confirmed that they will not be playing Hampton at all this season. They will play either South Carolina State or DelState instead. The bigger question is whether or not it will be an official conference game. The Pirates and Dr. Harvey has really screwed things up for everyone by agreeing to submit to the Big South Conference's demands;
Wow so they are really not playing a MEAC schedule. Can't wait to watch them suffer in the Big South

So, the question is, will A&T avenge the two losses to Jacksonville State??? I would hope so! The days of A&T being "Just happy to be here" are over. If we go anywhere, the expectation is that we are competitive and at the end of the day win the game

GAMECOCKS AVOID RAIN ON FIRST DAY OF SPRING PRACTICEJACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State football team had to alter its first day of spring practice a bit on Monday, moving the workout up an hour to avoid a rainy morning in Jacksonville. The four-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Gamecocks moved practice up to avoid the rain in the forecast, but head coach John Grass was pleased with what he saw in the short workout. "You have to adapt and overcome," he said. "Sometimes schedules change. We got in this morning and rain started showing up, so we went ahead and got out early and sipped some meetings. We were able to get a good day in and didn't get wet, so it was good to get it in." The Gamecocks have been working hard in the weight room during the offseason, but Grass and his staff were eager to get them on the field for the first time on Monday morning. "It was just good to get back out on the field and see these guys running around," he added. "You can pound that weight room and work on speed, and up to this point we've had a really good offseason, but you love to get the headgear on and get back out on the field." One of the things that Grass and his staff will use the spring practice period for is to see how guys respond to the practice setting after solid offseasons in the weight room and in conditioning workouts. He also wants to see the fundamental abilities for several spots on his roster. "You want to get people in positions," Grass aid. "You want to see if they are able to play in space and how they are at blocking and tackling – big things before we get into Thursday's practice and get some pads on. "Also, some of the guys have had really big offseasons, and you want to see how that carries over when we get into practice. We will get into our normal schedule on Tuesday and Thursday, so I'm ready get into our routine." That routine will include early morning workouts on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. JSU will practice for two weeks before taking off for Spring Break. JSU will then go three weeks after the break and culminate practice with the annual J-Day Spring Game on Thursday, April 12. "I love how we do spring practice," Grass said. "We go a couple of weeks, and then we have spring break. Then we come back and have three weeks after the break, so it never gets monotonous. Our guys stay excited to go to practice and ready to go." jsugamecocksports.com/news/2018/3/5/football-gamecocks-avoid-rain-on-first-day-of-spring-practice.aspx?path=football

Here is the official press release announcing the 2018 Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff Classic containing quotes from our AD. MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The defending Historic Black College and University (HBCU) national champion North Carolina A&T Aggies and the four-time defending Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) champion Jacksonville State Gamecocks will square off in the 2018 Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the historic Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. The game will be televised on ESPN with kickoff time to be set at a later date. Last year’s Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff Champions, the Jacksonville State University (JSU) Gamecocks, haven’t lost an Ohio Valley Conference game since 2013. In 2017, the Gamecocks posted a 10-2 overall record and adavnced to the FCS playoffs. JSU has won four straight OVC football championships, going 32-0 in conference play during that span. Since 2003, JSU has won seven OVC football championships. “Jacksonville State is thrilled to open the season in the Guardian FCS Kickoff again in 2018,” Jacksonville State University director of athletics Greg Seitz said. “After playing in the inaugural game last year, we feel it is one of the premier events in all of FCS football and is a great stage for us to showcase our program and FCS football to a national audience. We had a great experience in Montgomery in 2017 and we are excited to be able to give our fans the opportunity to see us play in a setting that is close to Jacksonville.” The North Carolina A&T Aggies finished the 2017 season with a perfect 12-0 record and won their second Celebration Bowl in three years, defeating Grambling State 21-14. The Aggies have won six HBCU National Championships, including 1951, 1968, 1990, 1999, 2015 and 2017. Well it's official... Let the preparation begin! I'm sure our coaching staff has been dissecting these guys since the rumor of this game leaked out. Don't know if I was a new head coach taking over a program, I'd like my first game against these guys! This is going to be a dream come true or a nationally televized nightmare. By kickoff I will be a nervous wreck!

Allen Johnson: Lynching memorial a stark reminder of terrorism in America
By Allen Johnson allen.johnson@greensboro.com You may have read or heard about the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Ala. If you haven’t, maybe you should. We have a place in it. The new outdoor exhibit commemorates each state and county where acts of home-grown American terrorism – the lynchings of black people – took place. Lynchings were used following the Civil War to reassert white dominance in the South and to reinforce Jim Crow laws and racial mores. The victims of lynchings were shot, hanged, tortured, burned and often mutilated and dismembered. They are the subject of a famous song by the native North Carolinian singer Nina Simone, “Strange Fruit” (Billie Holliday sang it as well.) Does anyone know if the A&T ticket office will be selling tickets for this game? Yes, we will. Gotta get through season tickets first, though (on-going). Can't remember the # that will be available. And like the CB... make sure to buy our allotment first, since that's our money to keep.
