Fans calling for Grambling’s Shawn Walker...they are certainly in turmoil at ECU. Vikingfan08 is probably a Shawn Walker fan!

ECU Men’s basketball falls to North Carolina A&T, nation’s leading scorer The East Carolinian Daniel Roberts 11/27/17After Thanksgiving break, the East Carolina University men’s basketball team lost to the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Aggies, home to the nation’s leading scorer, Femi Olujobi (29.4 points per game), in Minges Coliseum. The Pirates had to contain Olujobi, but he still had 13 points in the first half on 4-for-9 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. The Pirates started off slow, trailing 11-3 early in the first half and as much as nine points at one point, 32-23. “Basketball is a game of runs,” junior guard Isaac Fleming said. “When the team goes on a run and we are down by that much, it does not bother anybody because we know our run is coming, it is more of just sticking to the gameplan.” However, junior forward Kentrell Barkley and redshirt freshman guard Shawn Williams both provided big lifts to the team to get them back into the contest. Williams knocked down his first four three-point shots and had a last second layup fall to start off the game 5-for-5 and tie his career high in scoring with 14 points. Barkley added another 14 points on a efficient 6-for-9 from the field, and had six rebounds in the contest as well. After trailing 32-23 with 6:25 left in the first half, the Pirates cut the lead to three in the first half, with a halftime score at 43-40, Aggies way. “I tried to let the game come to me,” Barkley said. “My teammates were able to set me up with real good plays to the basket and I tried attacking the rim in transition which did help, but in the end they (A&T) sped us up, and got us out of East Carolina basketball and we were not doing the things we were good at towards the end.” Aggies guard Aaren Edmead dropped 23 second half points and finished with 25 points total to help seal the victory for A&T. Olujobi did not have the best night compared to his other performances and average PPG, but still added 23 points and nine rebounds. ECU had four players score in double figures, with three of them scoring at least 19 points each, with Fleming leading the way with 23. Barkley played all 40 minutes in the game and finished with a double-double (19 points and 11 rebounds), while Williams finished with 19 points after scoring 14 in the first half and senior guard B.J. Tyson added 11 points on 3-for-8 from the field in 38 minutes of playing time. www.theeastcarolinian.com/sports/article_4711d9da-d390-11e7-afd5-b3ed184c577c.html

One simple word Talent is the X factor could Coach Corbert win with out talent. COACHES HAVE TO HAVE Jimmys and Joes to win, not Salley and Jane. Short answer...yes! At the time Coach Corbett was just a much better coach that the other MEAC Coach. So he could find guys playing at the Y and turn them into decent players that could beat everybody else. Now as for Coach Joyner, he really had only one player on last year's team that could halfway play. The rest of the team was awful. I don't know if the decision to keep him another year (despite the alumni cries for his firing) was based on a smart decision by Hilton or a financial one but it appears to be a great decision.

And Keyes was HUGE in this game. He gets all-due-credit from me! He was pretty much playing in front of the hometown crowd so I know he was extra pumped up for this game.

I am sure he had some pressure but I doubt he was forced to resign this early in the season. If he was forced to; I would hate to think it was only because of us beating them but more to do with the his body of work in the 2017-2018 season.
