I get it , i just think this should have been discussed during the contract negotiations. Band for free and 10 mins at the half should be mandatory C'mon, PROFESSOR! MANDATORY?? LOL!!
Do you feel the same way concerning contracts with all (and not just a select ONE) CIAA teams coming to Aggie Stadium??Yes Mandatory. Our band is an extension of the pep squad. They are there to help root the team on. I marched and it was several games when it was us, the cheerleaders and about 200 Aggies in the stands. Its just about support. I have no issue with any band coming to Aggie stadium and think every team that has one should bring them. CIAA, SIAC, MEAC, Big South , CAA, Southern or any other team from any conference. It just adds to the pageantry of the game , IMO

On the road, sure, there could be some slight student recruiting advantages of taking your band to away games. However, I couldn't care less about the pageantry on a visiting campus, especially if it's not a conference rival and I have to foot the band's travel expenses.
At home, depending who the opponent is, I'd rather be able to sell the seats at a discount than to have the visiting band taking up the seats and cutting our own halftime show. In Aggie Stadium, it should be "All About The Aggies!"
And I definitely don't think that it should be MANDATORY for a visiting school to bring their band to Aggie Stadium (or anywhere, for that matter).

And that brand includes the band. If we are going to a game , and being paid to be there IMO they should too. Now when we are footing the bill , it should be by a case by case basis. But i will always favor the band going. Home games are alot better with a visiting band. And let's be serious for a second. The last two non Homecoming sellouts were WSSU in 2009 and FAMU in 1999. visiting band isn't going to hurt our attendance. It will actually help by kids and bandheads coming to see the visiting band. Mandatory no, but we should always have a band friendly policy towards other schools

i travel to a lot of "away games", especially those in the dmv. and i "prefer" that our band be in attendance at the away games i go to, but i feel that way for my own selfish reasons. first of all, it is "difficult" to win games on the road because the home team usually has more fans there than us (lol, except at howard). but when our band is on the road with us and the team, they even the playing field a little bit and they help us road warriors to pump up our football team.
its a big, big plus when the bgmm is on the road with us fans and the team. i want them there for selfish reasons, so that they can help us to win "road games". to me, the halftime show is secondary to their performance in the stands during road games...

Just like we didn't give FAMU money to travel a few years back, I don't see other teams giving us money (paying) to travel our band. Especially, if the band is an extension of our fan-base.

I understand, but I don't see us turning money down if they, the other team who's guaranteeing us money, should choose not to include the band.

And you made my point when you brought up the WSSU game in 2009 and the FAMU game in 1999. Because of the situations surrounding those games, both would have sold out without the bands being there. And since I'm very familiar with FAMU's band needs in stadiums, I know for a fact that they used over 500 seats that day. Unless they paid for those seats, that's a minimum of $10,000 (calculated @ $20 per seat) in lost ticket revenue. I'd rather have that $10,000 in our coffers than The Hundred in the stadium.

The only time i think the band should be paid for is for these guarantee games. What they usually do is calculate a figure into the contract that will defray the band's travel costs. For instance (and I hate to keep using them as an example, but I've seen these contracts), when FAMU plays at Miami, the contract is $600,000 for the game. But an additional $150,000 is added to it to help the band travel. Thus, the announced contract is for $750,000 for that game. Since the band's travel came out of FAMU Athletics' pockets at that time, we were able to dictate how and where that $150,000 was spent.

No way we sell out that game in 99 without the 100. Now we didn't pay them to come but I know people who traveled from the DMV area, Nashville, and Atlanta just to watch A&T vs the 100 battle. Now i'm all for its a football game but this is apart of the experience. And this is just good convo in offseason.

speaking of offseason convo, don't look now but preseason training camp is not very far away, only about 3 more weeks or so away, and i'm "pumped"! omg, i can't wait for the doggone season to start! i've got this very bad taste in my mouth from losing to the buzzards 3 times and it won't go away until we kick their butts. i've had my "bragging rights" card over them completely stripped away! man, gotta have my "bragging rights" restored! if we don't do it this season, i'm gone have to go to rehab or seek counseling or something. worst feeling in the world is not being able to talk smack to them dayum buzzards...
