so what is the latest word on the aggie stadium playing surface? has a decision been made to stay with the status quo “indefinitely”? or, are there any plans to finally put down “field turf” in aggie stadium like most other fcs hbcu’s?
shoot, i know one thing. if it means aggie stadium being televised on espnu again with brown grass all over the place like last year’s dsu game? then as much as i strongly “covet” every opportunity as possible to showcase our university on international tv, i rather we not appear on espnu at all if it means aggie stadium will be televised with “brown grass”.
to me, “brown grass” on international tv is very embarrassing given that about 99% of all football games on espn all have green grass or artificial turf. aggie stadium is “beautiful” when the grass is totally green. but when the grass has “brown” patches all over the place, it brings the entire stadium down...

It's only a matter of time before we see field turf at Aggie Stadium.

Aggie Stadium is one of the bigger venues for Track and Field doing the summer ! Are we willing to lose that revenue to install Field Turf ?? I'm all for the Field Turf , but I'm not for losing the revenue that the Track and stadium provides over the summer !!!

how long is the installation process? I have no clue but the window at A&T to install turf is way shorter than most schools. We host SEVERAL outdoor meets. The stadium can not be out of commission at any point between April and November(track and then football) unless we want to lose revenue for a whole track season. And you never want to give up the track events because you may not get them back for years, or maybe even never. That only leaves a window of December - March. Weather makes that very tricky. They could forego the summer track meets only and that would give them a 2nd window of mid-May through August. The weather would be much nicer to a construction crew for those 3 months vs the 4 months of winter.

We should probably study southern's transition process. As a reference: NCCU started their turf install on July 13th and finished before Labor Day. Thats less than 2 months. So based on that, 4 months in the winter may work if we dont want to lose track revenue. Maybe do it in a year where we go to NCCU for football so they can start earlier and be done by the time track rolls around.

When is the last track meet we have scheduled? This year it's the NC USATF Junior Olympic Regional Qualifiers. June 26th Base on what NCCU did(starting on July 13th), starting immediately after that meet is doable if they ever decide to do it. Sometimes they host regionals which is 2 weeks later. And they have hosted the nationals as well, which goes to August 1st.

how long is the installation process? There are two key parts to converting a natural grass field: Building the Base and Turf Installation. Although the construction timetable for a synthetic turf facility will vary depending on the permit requirements, conditions of the site, the size of the surface being installed, the resources of the contractor and the weather there are some project basics. 1.Building the Base The base not only serves as the platform for the artificial turf, it is necessary for drainage. FieldTurf offers our clients assistance to evaluate the current field conditions and recommend design details. While every project is customized, here are the 4 key stages to building the perfect base along with the typical timeframes: ◦Field Excavation to Subgrade (6 Days) ◦Install Perimeter Concrete Curb/Nailer (6 Days) ◦Install Geotextile Fabric and Field Underdrain System (6 Days) ◦Install Free Draining Base Stone and Finish Stone (8 Days) 2. Turf Installation Next up is the turf installation. In less than 30 days you’ll go from an empty base to a lush playing field. Here’s how we do it. ◦Off-load Turf Rolls and Place Turf (3 Days) ◦Sew Turf Panels (8 Days) ◦Install Field Markings and Decorative Markings (8 Days) ◦Install Infill (5 Days) ◦Remove Construction Entrance/Clean Up/Demobilize/Test Field (3 Days) The key to executing the perfect playing field is simple: choose the right partners. A skilled designer, experienced contractor, and FieldTurf. It's a lot shorter then I expected it to be . Under the right Weather conditions it could be in place in 30 t0 60 days at the most ? But as AM stated it all depends on the "Weather" and also some minor repairs to the Track surface maybe needed do to construction equipment movement ( www.fieldturf.com/en/artificial-turf/construction-and-installation ) .

Man that's nice !!!
Our day will come...this is becoming common place, and it's becoming expected at stadiums.
A field like that in our colors with the bulldog head and "Aggie Pride" where most people put conference logos would be one of the best looking fields at our level.
