Turf inside the stadium : 1) football field never looks bad 2) when we go off of daylight savings time in the fall ,the football team practices in the stadium because it gets dark around 5 pm , so putting turf on practice field only serves a purpose for half of football season . We would have to install lighting on the practice field also, but then we couldn't use it for track ,the poles would be in the way . Somebody help me out ,but I think the dimensions of a soccer field ,are bigger than a football field . We would need to either build a soccer facility or use one of the many stadiums in the area . The field dimensions are within the range found optimal by FIFA: 110–120 yards (100–110 m) long by 70–80 yards (64–73 m) wide. These soccer field dimensions are wider than the regulation American football field width of 53 1⁄3 yards (48.8 m), or the 65-yard (59 m) width of a Canadian football field. The playing surface should also consist of grass as opposed to artificial turf, since the latter makes players more susceptible to injuries. Thanks for the dimensions. Field turf is much better on the body than the old-style artificial turf that we're used to. The only issue long-term is the rubberized pellets that simulate a dirt base. There are some carcinogenic concerns based on inhalation/ingestion. Aside from that... I wouldn't have an issue with field turf.

We are scheduled to play our soccer games at Bryan Park until the Memorial Stadium renovations are completed and we then would move our games there once it is completed. At least that was the plan as of this past winter.

Wow aggieone, this is news to me. It's my understanding that those renovations are still a few years out. Is that still the case? Having a top notch facility for baseball and soccer would be another feather in A&T's hat.

Remember years ago, Norfolk played their football games on ODU's soccer field.

Didn't women's soccer get pushed back a year? I have a parent who was very interested in the new soccer program and he was bummed to find out it got pushed back a year, so his daughter would have to sit until after her freshman year.

man, i’m a big soccer fan! learned the game when i coached my son and daughter’s youth league teams a long time ago. even became a certified “soccer referee” during that time. i kinda gave soccer up when my kids started playing basketball, but i still loved the sport. learned all of the rules and even learned all of the soccer fundamentals, had to since i was teaching kids how to play.
its a great sport, i luv it because it requires a tremendous amount of “athleticism”, coordination, and conditioning to excel at it. i literally cannot wait to see our women’s soccer team hit the field for the first time! i am sooooooooooooo glad we’re adding this sport. i've always had a "dream" that one day the holland bowl would be converted to a full blown regulated soccer field for the girls team to play at. it would be the perfect location to attract students to watch the games, literally it would be right in the "center" of campus where plenty of student traffic occurs...

Holland Bowl would be a great location if it wasn't for the location ..lol. Holland is located in a Valley and when it rains or snows the run off heads down hill from both sides and collects in Holland Bowl 8-)It would take a lot of space adjustment to Construct in that area If they could pull that off, that would it Would become the Centerpiece of the campus And I agree with you about the sport its self , Soccer is one of the most continual exciting action packed sports there is When a parents ask me about what sport to start there kids out in as a first sport.. lol I don't even have to think about it I say Soccer because of the Footwork and Conditioning ..lol Especially for kids that or looking to play Football, Basketball or Lacrosse down the line

When was the last time anyone here has seen Holland Bowl? That drainage problem was taken care a few years back. It is not nearly the bowl it once was when most of you attended A&T. It has been elevated. A slight bowl (shallow) shape is still there. Plus it is not big enough. Since there is quite a discussion about the football field, would you want an area on campus that is in full view of the public be used as an athletic field? Too much wear and tear. Memorial Stadium sounds good, but will be costly.

And there would be all kinds of problems with a lining a Baseball and Soccer field format 8-)Now the field behind Memorial Stadium and the tennis courts could not only accommodate a Soccer pitch with no problem and have space for a field event activity pit for Track and field Do we own all of that property from the Tennis courts back ?

hey, its just a “dream”. and i realize it isn’t currently big enough. but it was always used for intramural sports when i was a student and it never was an eyesore to the public because the grass grew quite well in the bowl, probably because plenty of rain flows to the bowl surface from the inclines surrounding the bowl.
its still my “dream”, but perhaps the bowl could be extended beyond bluford street to make it big enough for a regulation soccer field. wouldn’t really need any seating unless its a couple of bleachers or two because students usually sit on the hills anyway...

When the bowl was used for intramural sports, and that was rare, there was wearing on the grass. In some years there were even paths going across the bowl from foot traffic. The university appears to be about campus beautification. Especially the areas that are visible to the general public. People marvel at the attractiveness of the campus. Since Laurel and Bluford are public streets, rezoning by the city would be required. It would also disrupt the flow of traffic to that side of campus and would have to also consider emergency use. The stadiums would be better locations.

Right now I believe our focus should be on funding FCOA, even if it's partials. Imo, that will immediately provide a recruiting advantage over the rest of the conference.
